| Just curious - how many of you have wills or living wills? We've needed to do it for years, but haven't yet. We're struggling to decide on who will raise the kids should something happen to both of us. (Huge, heated debate!!!!) (DH's parents died when he was 11 yrs old --therefore the concern. I'm an only child and his natural brother rubs me the wrong way and I've vowed that our kids will not be raised by him.) Does anyone else have these issues? Do you have your affairs in order? Jen |

| We have both living wills and wills. I got very sick a few years back, and I wanted to make clear my wishes if something were to happen to me, so we put together our living wills. As for our wills, we put in them that if something were to happen to us, our children are to go to my parents for now (they live 2 miles from us and very close to the kids), but if something happens when my parents are much older, and can't take care of them they are to go to my sister and husband. We were without wills when my first child was born, and it bothered me that we had nothing in place. I feel better now that we have it done.

Right now, it seems like a moot point because it's pretty unlikely that something will happen to both me and son's bio-dad since we live on opposite coasts. But one never knows. kim

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | We have talked about doing it, we don't have wills but we do have a sibling named in the life insurance policy if the kids aren't 18 so that's a start. We can't really afford to pay someone to do wills and don't really know what to do ourselves, so I don't know where to start. |

You can get Will Maker by Quicken online at Costco for $34.99 and free shipping. At least it would be something. Jan | |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I grew up basically w/o either parent, so between my sister and I we have this "thing" if something happened to either one of us, how affairs would be handled, especially concerning my brother who is only 15. I know it's nothing unofficial and WILL do something in the near future. My thing is, I don't want either parent/relative that really took no part in our upbringing trying to 'pull' something when something does happen...ya know...

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | We have both wills. It cost us 1000.00 bucks to have them drawn up with the attorney. Everything got covered. Our primary reason was for the children. I would hate for them to be split up if anything ever hppened to us. Then we took care of the rest of the estate planning, bonds, IRA's, 401k, stocks, houses, cars, blah blah blah. It was awful having to talk about it. I think I even cried once or twice, but in the end, I know that my children wil be properly taken care of. I just can't belive i actually took us 5 yrs to do so. We did have in writing and notarized before who would have guardianship of the children, with a back up, and another back up in case of illnesses, divorce, or sudden life changes.
