I sold my Acura Integra 3 years ago using AutoTrader. I had a bunch of callers and sold it within days for my asking price! It was so worth it!

I did have issues, we did have them fixed and the warranty is good on those parts for at least another year or so... our certified pre owned warranty is coming up in March (but i hear they can be extended)... I just want to get rid of it to get something newer (bimmer or not) and i really don't need the SUV portion or gas cost anymore, so i figured i'd go back to a "car".

The main issues were the CV boots (we just replaced those and since it was "out of warranty", it was kindof expensive) and there's a self leveling thing that had problems about a year ago that we replaced (warranty good for 2 yrs). but those were the two "biggest" problems.

really, i want to sell it before the warranty expires so it gives the new owner some time in case anything pops up (sometimes the little plastic things in the windows break. happens in all bimmers). i didn't want to sell her without any warranty at all.

I'm not sure what i'm going to get yet.. i'm looking at volvo's, audi's, bimmers...cars basically made/put together outside of the US. but, i'm also considering lexus and toyota as well since i liked my corolla a lot. No honda's due to the "stealability" here in phx.

yea...the last car i got rid of (my toyota corolla - GREAT car), i ran down to where i ran no more.. and donated it vs selling it. which is why i don't know a thing about trying to sell a car...my dad used to do it when i was younger (when life was like pushing the easy button)! haha

I only sold a Mustang once and that was to a friend of a friend and it was in mint condition--I just needed a four door since I had a child. Other than that, I'm of no use here because we keep our cars till they drop dead (or eventually we will!).

i sold my old car on craigslist and had no problems with it. I only used email and would give someone my phone number when they had made an appointment with me to see/test drive the car. I always made sure to get their phone number as well. When they test drove it, I usually rode along or I held on to their drivers' license while they were out with it.

I ended up selling my car for $1000 and got cash for it. that was a lot of cash to have on hand for a day until i could get to a bank. I'd accept either cash, or a certified check from a known bank.

good luck

Kristie,
The way we have sold cars and so has the Dr. Is call one of the Auto Detail places and have some touch ups on the dings Dr. Forred said that the guy came over to his house and brush painted over all the dings and it only costed him $100.

And then take it to a place like Los Olivos and have them do a complete detail (between $60-$100) and they do a COMPLETE detail they even clean the engine and the air vents makes it look as good as new.

I think the Dr. sold his car in 2 days even before he was able to put it in the paper ( I Think they put the FOR SALE signs in the windows.
I sold mine in about 1-2 weeks.

We are thinking about selling our suburban now that we have 2 cars that are nice and fuel efficient. Just have to talk dh into parting with it.

We've sold a couple of cars thru newspaper ads, sold one to a f/a by hanging flyers up in the employee bus stop booths, and sold our minivan about a month ago first by advertising in the paper, but then putting it on AutoTrader after we weren't successful thru the paper. And we got a lot more than the dealer offered us. I would always try to sell first before trading it in if possible.

We timed the ads to come out during a time period that dh had several days off, so that he could be home when people would want to come by and look at it or test drive it. DH always went on the test drive with them. And we've only accepted cash or a bank's cashier's check. If we ever have to sell another one, I would personally start with AutoTrader first before the newspaper, just because we had a lot more calls with it, and the guy that bought it actually called within a couple of hours of it being posted. And if I can remember correctly, I think the cost of AutoTrader was a little cheaper than just a 10-day ad in the paper and you can post pictures on it.

ok, so this is my list of "cars to test drive"

VW EOS
VW Passat
Audi A6
Audi S4/RS4
Lexus ES
Lexus IS
Volvo S60
Volvo S80

I thought about a honda civic (sport) but they really don't have most of the features i like in my bmw (like being able to see how much fuel is left and other nifty things)...

But my car is all fixed now (paint job done) and we're just about ready to sell... just need to find the right replacement first.

I test drove the VW EOS and Passat today.. the EOS was "cute" with the whole convertable and/or moonroof option but it left very little trunk space and it rode kinda like a truck (tighter suspension)... i was pretty impressed with the Passat and sometime this week, we're gonna go back and test drive the Jetta cuz i could always get a Jetta and soup it up some to Passat standards (altho i don't know if it'd really save me any $$).

There's also a really good deal on a BMW 325i that I'm going to go test drive tomorrow. I don't have BMW on the list but it does seem as though they have the best warranty and maintenance plan which is pretty high on my "needs" list. So, i figure i had better try it out. it's a 2006 with 13,000 miles for $34K with every single "package" out there on it (sport, premium sound etc)... figure if i like it, i can easily talk them down to 30K or less.

Does anyone have any of the above cars that can give me their opinion on how it runs/how they like it/how repair is working etc etc?

I really like VW's, I personally don't have one, but that is my car that I will get when I get my 'real' job...my best friend has a Passat and LOVEs it, they get great mileage, but the only down fall is that when it needs to get maintained you should take it to a VW specialist, I think for their oil change, they pay close to $50. I am not for sure though, VW's have always seemed to be reliable...
