It's difficult to know how accurate these photos of you show your color, however, I see one post w/2 photos of you. The one on the right is a little darker, which I personally prefer because it doesn't look so washed out; your skin coloring is already fair so a little depth would be beautiful, adding more contrast.
The color also looks to be neutral to ash & your complexion looks a bit pink; am I correct?
'Warming' your color up would be very attractive for you, allowing your eyes to brighten, or 'pop', as I like to say, and it would be a compliment to show off your beautiful skin. If you decide on this you will benefit from changing up your make up a bit to coincide w/the new color.
I see this darker hair on the bottom ... I take it this is hair color as well?

As your roots begin to show, what color are they? You say you don't know your real color; look at your eyebrows...looks to me you are prob a level 7:dark blond. Not being strange...just makes sense...you might check 'down there' in your private garden. Of course that will naturally be somewhat darker because it is not exposed to the elements which tend to lighten your hair...this is why hair is naturally darker underneath than on top where it is exposed to more sunlight/oxidation.

If you were MY client and wanted my expert opinion for your coloring, I would assess your personality & lifestyle to ascertain the most satisfying results. How do you see yourself? What is your current hair goal?
I have successfully been a practicing cosme-therapist ;-) for 25 yrs: I.E. "Hair done, heads shrunk, spirits lifted."
I am current because I stretch myself with up to date training.
I love the outcome of the chemical process & styles that enhance the appearance; It's really exciting to see the results and smiles of my clients. 'Transformations' are refreshing and uplifting. Color is a great perk when done properly. If not it can be a ghastly disappointment.

BTW: I know virtually nothing about 'box colors' as I only use professional products so I will not be able to advise on which store bought products are best. I do know that these applications usually run one shade darker than they indicate. It is always best to err on the side of being lighter than you expected rather than too dark, which is obviously more difficult to remedy if you're displeased w/the outcome.

Good Luck and Happy Hair Days.
Oh, and it's Father's Day so I hope your DH is able to enjoy it hopefully by being there or a wonderful call from his beloved girls...YOU and your darling daughter.

WOW! that's the most interesting hair thought provoking post ever!! thanks!!

the dark color underneath is also colored yes...i probably do have the color mixes wrong but it seems like the color coming in at the roots (top) is darker than my natural color...probably because i'm NOT getting out in the sun that it's coming in *that* dark. to me, it seemed as though the color coming in was the same color that i had done from the ears down.

yea, the colors in the pictures aren't all that great cuz it's via camera phone and you know how those cameras operate! haha

I'm actually more of an olive complexion, believe it or not... would rather be more pinkish but my blush does a fairly good job of giving me some of that pinky look.

I had no idea we even had any cosmotologists on board..otherwise i would have done my homework better with the color types! hahaha

next time i see her, i'll ask again cuz it would be neat to know which colors would actually be best to keep me looking young and "fresh". I think the blend of blonde on the top, this time, has already perked up my age.

I'm always a fan of the natural color. My hair used to be BLONDE blonde (probably a 10 from what these ladies say), but as I now work more indoors, it's a darker color, which actually looks better. I'd go for darker, because I think it brings out the colors in your face...eyes, cheeks, lips, etc.

Since we're on the subject of hair -

I don't recommend trying to cut your own.

Nope.

Either I missed something in an above response, or there's a story there....

This smiley has nothing whatsoever to do with anything... I just find it amusing to watch : )

I really like the dark under light over look. I want to do that, I usually get all over highlights, but I think I'm going to go with partial on top highlights. I have been getting them for about a year now and every time they get lighter, but still not light enough.

So in other words, I like your hair like it is! But I don't have to look at it every day either. Do whatever, its only hair it'll grow back! Thats how I always look at it

(Maybe not THIS color though!)

My hair is also jet black..and I've often thought about putting a crazy streak of color into it or something..
Kristie I like the picture on the right ...it looks like your is blonde on top and black underneath and that is very cool ! I've wanted to do the reverse actually , but my brother wouldn't let me.
I think you should go crazy and do whatever you what, it looks good to me

Heck McMuffin you're near Scottsdale- anything goes in that town.

I have dark hair and until recently some red highlights (that unfortunately turn brassy quickly). I work in finance at a super super conservative company and that's what is stopping me!

i'm naturally a 5/6 and put in some blond highlights a while ago (like, feb) and then recently put in some red highlights on top of all that. i htink it looks pretty sweet. This fall though (maybe september?) i'm going to go dark brown (cause my stylist told me never to go black since you can't bring it back without bleaching) and put in some bright blue streaks. keep that for a couple of months before i have to start skiing again and can't have 'non natural hair color'

I have always been blonde and decided to go darker gradually, but then once I was darker, my gray started showing! So back to blonde I went!
