Yes, I said the same thing...I am never selling this house. Infact we always joked that we will keep the house and the kids can go to ASU. But, after 3 years of renting (in our luck, to the same great couple) it was time to let it go and move on. However if we still lived in AZ or even near AZ we may have re-thought or decision, but as it is the home was in AZ and we are in NC- just a huge headache.

I hear ya... being a landlord 2500 miles away is a challenge. I am lucky since my renter works at my current company and I've known her for 2 years. She is extremely dependable AND mature!

I know I will need to let go at some point, probably if/when we have any kiddies. Kiddies = $ and we'll get the $ from the townhouse!

I laughed when I read your post since I too said that I'll send my future kids (or my neice or nephew to ASU!).

well, i am now surrogate mom (2nd time in my life)...

either one of the babies fell or the other pushed it out of the nest, but he/she's all mine until i can take her to liberty foundation on monday.

i wasn't quite sure what to do with her (i'm labeling it a her just cuz most things are labeled "her")...so i gathered up some old grass, a few protective thorn branches and paper towel lined a dinner bowl. haha

when i came home, baby bird has somehow walked out of bowl onto floor and all the way over to the door which i'm surprised she didn't get out and the cats didn't get her. so, i've now put her in a shoe box with a surrogate mom (turkey stuffed animal and a nice warm scarf and she's sleeping pretty peacefully. i did stop at hte grocery store (thank goodness it's open till 12) and bought a dropper and a baby syringe and was able to get some mashed cat food (watered down when i went out for the night) and water down her throat.. she was pretty darn thirsty!! but is learning to drink from a dropper. tomorrow should be easier as she starts to learn.

so far, have been able to keep cats at bay since she's in the guest room with door closed. hopefully that'll stay a good situation.

I'll post a pic of baby and surrogate "turkey" mom in the morning.. it's really quite cute, i'm just pretty darn tired now and i know she's gonna be hungry before long, so off to sleep i go.

more tomorrow.

That sounds completely adorable!!
It is heading towards Sring here. The last of the snow has melted again, but we are still freezing overnight.
I ordered fruit plants for our yard. I have no idea where we are going to put them...but I love the idea of fresh fruit.

I would have dropped off the bird at Liberty as soon as I found it! You can drop off 7 days a week there. A few years ago there was a little accident and we had a very young sparrow with a broken leg in my yard (it was a Sunday). I called Liberty and they told me to bring it over ASAP since they don't live long without momma there (they need to be fed every 15 minutes and rarely survive if kept overnight). On the website I read to feed it tiny pieces of apple since it provides nutrition and hydration/water).

When I brought the bird in they were so nice and said to the bird in the box "hey little guy! We'll fix you right up and make you feel all better again". I swear I thought I would start crying because it was so sweet. I gave them a nice donation while I was there too.
It is a fantastic organization and before that incident I never knew they existed! Good luck! In case anyone else finds a bird check out the do's and don'ts (things I never knew abaout before): http://www.libertywildlife.org/urgent_instructions.html

I remember them not being open afer 5pm and I called to get the address again and dropoff time but no call back yet (it's sunday)...so that's why i'm still watching the little thing. I've left him/her out all afternoon to see if momma goes to feed him/her. but other than that, i bought some hand feeding food in the meantime cuz otherwise she'd starve.

I've taken babies there before and they're good with accepting them. this one is more feathered than the last one and she seems to be holding up ok still. what's funny is that when i feed her, you can see her getting stronger pretty quickly.

well, birdie's all taken care of! they called me back and i took him right over with a nice donation.

found out that the emergency vet hospital on Shea (near Scottsdale Rd) is where you can take the animals after hours if Liberty's not open. Wish i would have known that last night!

Lady at Liberty told me that mom would have probably found her on the ground and kept raising her. oh well, lesson learned for next time!
