Wow...what a heated topic. Here's my take on things, from what I have read, someone is furloughed. They take a job that is from a so-called shadey airline. People warned him of the possibilities of things happening to his future career if he would take this job, but he takes it anyway. He already took it, so nothing said against him taking the job will help now. No one is in anyone else's exact situation. So, we can't specifically say that we wouldn't do the same. My hubby's advice was that it would ruin his career and future and he wouldn't take the job. BUT, we aren't paying this person's bill and we aren't deciding between the less of two evils at this point.

I agree with Michelle that it is difficult to find a walmart-type job at our age and with so much experience, but there are jobs out there that might tide someone over until things, if they will, would blow over with the airlines or until someone would find another aviation type job. It isn't hopeless to find a different job, but it is difficult.

I have heard of these lists that everyone is talking about, and I, personally, think they are childish. Unfortunately, the reality is that they do exist, and it might make it more difficult for your hubby's commute and/or his future career with another airline. Again, I do think it is childish because no one knows the circumstances that someone had to make this decision to join an airline like that. Yes, everyone has issues of the whys they would or would not do something. To me, those lists rash judge everyone, but then again, I am not a pilot and I see things from a different perspective. I picture someone that is using their last resource, and unfortunately, some of the pilots see it as betrayal to other pilots. Whether it is or not is not the point. The point is that some pilots see it that way.

I know this must have been a tough decision for you guys, danish. Not one I would want to make, and not necessarily the choice I would make, but I hope we can all give you the support that you need right now, despite if we agree with you or not. I really think everyone was/is just trying to look out for you guys in the long run, and I am sure everyone will agree with me that we all hope things work out for the best.

I agree with Regina's last paragraph.

I can't imagine what it would be like to have to make a decision like that.

Can I ask one question Danish? What would your DH have done if GoJets hadn't offered him a position?

I don't like the airline and it's history, but I can say the same for many other airlines that treat their pilots like crap (Mesa, for one). I don't like them, but they exist and people work there. They bring down the industry as a whole, but until all pilots are able to ban together to bring about the change thats needed, I don't see them going away (especially in this bad economy).

I do worry that this decision may follow your DH for the rest of his career and may have shot himself in the foot by doing it, but again, I don't pay your bills either.

I hope that he's able to find something else very quickly and can get out of there as fast as possible... Just because I don't agree with your decision, I understand it was a difficult one for you and I hope that things improve for you very soon.

    (((HUGS)))

Thanks. If gj hadn't offered him the job, he would have collected unemployment and tried to cfi part time. But, we can't live on that kind of salary, esp w/ so much being taken out of my check to cover insurance for me, him and the kid.

I appreciate y'all sharing your POV with me. And am truly grateful for the support.

Funny, something similar happened with my husband tonight. He was attempting to catch a ride on the JS. Went down to talk to the Captain, who asked him who he worked for. My husband told him. The Captain then said, "Oh GOOD! For some reason I'd thought you were GoJet. I think the gate agent said that or something. We were about to say we had a problem with the Oxygen tanks up here."

Hassel face to face is one thing, however i do take issue with the following:

Posting a gojet pilot's contact information, including the address that they live (no posted in the phone book) on one of the forums. Fortunatly it was taken down quickly, but we still don't know if it was dh's info or not. That's seriously not cool............and if it was my husband's info, well, I'm going to have a serious problem with that. We have a child, and don't appreciate our info being posted like that. I'm not saying it was our info, but if it was that creates a potentially dangerous situation. I used to work at a psych hospital, have had former patients show up on my doorstep (this is partially what prompted us moving in the first place).

Please remind any pilots you know to keep thier arguments professional, and not put another pilots family at risk.

No, I agree with you there, Danish. I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous! Where did that happen??

Also, as far as "the list" goes, I thought they were just using it to see names of people working there. You know, as I mentioned before, to say "yea" or "nay" to people getting interviews. Using it like you said is insane.

It was on airlinepilotcentral.com I believe......and while we don't know if it was dh's stuff or not, even the idea that someone would be crass enough to post even a name or phone number makes me sick. Perhaps my previous job made me a tad paranoid, but there's so much scary stuff out there already, it's stupod to add to it.

I never saw the post, and it was changed by the time dh saw it, so again, we have no specifics. The list being used during a hiring I can sort of understand, but using the list to deny a js to someone who might really need to get home (is if I'm in labor and he's just trying to get to me I don't agree with....... there's got to be some kind of boundries.

Also, I might add... Although the hassling has been bad thus far, it's only going to get worse now that most other airlines are furloughing while GoJet is still hiring.
Again, nothing I say is or should be construed as a threat. Sheesh. I don't know how it could be, but you seem to have taken things I've said that way. These are just my observations of the state of the current airline industry.

I'm sorry, I know you didn't mean that as a threat and I'm sorry I did not state that earlier. I know you are only trying to help, I got my back up and responded without thinking first (and I'm a bit hot tempered at time). Sorry.
