Piedmont is furloughing too
He did it. He's in the next class, and people are already hasseling him about it. Here's what I don't get............I understand someone giving a pilot who is going to GJ a hard time if said pilot is a) fresh out of flight school, b) younger than 30, and c)doesn't have a family to support. DH is almost 37, has been out of college for awhile, and we have a kid (and a multitude of college loans to pay off and he has no retirement to speak of). I understand "looking out for your brothers" and all, but he's seriously behind the eight ball, and his only other choice would be to stop with the airlines and stick to flying a desk until he retires. IT's not like he has the years to "wait it out" if you know what I mean.
I never understood the hassle either. The original ones that turned their backs on TSA, now those I can understand. But someone like your husband has to make a living and support a family so they shouldn't be hassled for trying to do that. If Go Jet's is all that's available, then he should go for it. I've heard alot of pilots say they won't allow them to jump seat, but those pilots are getting to work somehow, so I'm not sure how that's working.
Good luck to him and try not to let all the crap get to you...![]()
To think things can't get any worse is a failure of imagination.

Good luck!

Aside from all Gojets or don't go to Gojets issues...those of you that are saying "go work at Walmart or McDonald's", let me tell you, you can't count on getting hired there. They don't WANT to hire "over-qualified" people because they know they won't be there long. They want to hire people that pretty much will be working there because they aren't qualified for anything else. If you have a college degree, WM and Taco Bell and McDonald's etc. won't even LOOK at you, unless your degree is in business management or you have food industry experience and are looking for a 70 hour a week management position. So it's not so easy to just "go work at WM" until something better comes along.
Thanks for the support. DH is really getting some heat over this, and I wanted to point out to the hecklers that he's not some young, unattached guy who can just go anywhere. But, needless to say he wouldn't let me...........I think most of the people yelling at him over gojets are just immature dudes with too much time on thier hands and too few brain cells upstairs.
I think it'd be just as easy to get a WM or McD's job because you don't have to give a resume, so how would they find out unless they do some type of background check?
i disagree on the comment about too much time with too few brain cells. I think you need to understand that a lot of the folks that are telling him that gojets isn't going to "help" him future wise are guys/gals that have been involved in the industry a LOT longer than he has and they have more experience regarding situations like this. If ya'll don't want to listen, that's fine with me....it's not my decision to make, my family doesn't have to hold that burden, your family does....but it's quite unfair and unprofessional to insult anyone (including myself considering my hubby is one of the guys who has told him it's not a good idea) with comments like that. Doug has 10+ years of experience in pax flying, i think he knows what he's talking about as he was there on the sidelines watching when it all went down (as was I). it was quite obvious at the time as to what was occurring.
we're all just trying to help you out, so he doesn't get caught up in something that *might* affect ya'll in the future. don't agree, that's fine, you're not hurting my feelings at all because again, i don't have to carry that burden.

He can't possibly be surprised he is taking heat for his decision. And now he most likely will for the rest of his career. Not that I agree or disagree, it's just the way it is. Surely, he was aware of the situation before he made his choice, it's not really fair to say all the others are the ones with too few brain cells!
Her dh is 37 years old! What do you think he's going to do? Lie about not having a degree and say he hasn't had any work experience in the last several years? He'll have to fill out a job application, and he'll have to list previous work experience, and if his previous jobs show that he is an educated and intelligent person, they won't hire him! His other choice would be to totally lie and make up some retarded work history and give fake names and addresses, but then what happens when they call his previous employer and it doesn't exist? You wanna test my theory? Go apply at Walmart with your engineering degree and experience. I'll give you $20 if you get hired.I think it'd be just as easy to get a WM or McD's job because you don't have to give a resume, so how would they find out unless they do some type of background check?
