Default DAL update on hiring...

Quote:
Dear Delta Pilot,

I’ve asked my Flight Ops communications team to forward this email to you via our Plane Talk and Delta.com email systems since I wanted you to be the first to hear about our plans to begin the pilot hiring process next month. As you know, we have offered recall to all but 92 of our furloughed pilots at this point, and based on our needs for February and March, I believe we will exhaust our furloughed pilot list in the next few weeks. As I mentioned in a previous code-a-phone, we anticipated this possibility early this fall and began planning for the hiring process at that time. Retired Captain Jon Swift was tapped to take over the program last month, and we are ready to move forward with the application process beginning later today. Our first interviews should occur near the end of January, and depending on the response we get from our remaining furloughed pilots, our first new-hire pilot may be in class as early as February or March.

Our pilot applications will be managed using the Airlineapps.com tool, but the rest of the process will be very similar to what we used during the 1996-2001 timeframe. Later today, you will be able to see the pilot hiring info on Delta.com – click on “about Delta” at the bottom and follow the “careers” link to see where we are headed.

We will have more information coming out this afternoon via the Delta News Network and a press release. We’ll also be following up with instructions describing how our pilot group can submit recommendations for pilot candidates going forward. I value your recommendations very highly and encourage you to get familiar with your Delta.com outlook email account now as that will provide the easiest means for us to verify your recommendations after being contacted by an applicant. If you need help getting that account up and running, give the Chief Pilot Support Center a call and they can assist you. We’ll also have a Flight Ops page up on the Delta net shortly dedicated to the pilot selection process.

Stay tuned for more information and thanks for your great work on the line.
so, there ya go... it's official!

Delta Accepting Pilot Applications
Wednesday December 20, 12:00 pm ET

ATLANTA, Dec. 20, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines today will officially begin accepting applications for new-hire pilots in anticipation of exhausting its pilot furlough list in 2007. Interviews for new Delta first officer positions are scheduled to begin in January.
``Starting the hiring process again is a significant milestone for our pilot group,'' said Steve ****son, vice president of Flight Operations and a 757/767 Captain. ``It signifies the likely return of our last furloughed pilot, and provides hope for growth and career advancement for current pilots.''

Delta recently announced that it would need approximately 200 additional pilots during 2007 in order to meet the demands of the flying schedule due to network restructuring and international expansion. These pilots will come from a combination of pilots returning from furlough and new hire pilots.

``Clearly, this announcement, coupled with our recently announced order for new Boeing 737 and 777 aircraft as well as the planned acquisition of 13 Boeing 757s, shows that Delta's plan is working and the future for the Delta pilot group looks bright,'' ****son said.

Pilots interested in submitting an application are encouraged to view the Careers page at delta.com: (http://www.delta.com/about_delta/car...ties/index.jsp)

Delta's call for new pilots marks the first time since 2001 that the airline has accepted applications from prospective pilots. During 2006, Delta has offered recall to more than 340 pilots, in addition to recalls of 900 maintenance professionals and 1,200 flight attendants. The company continues to hire in its Airport Customer Service and Reservations divisions.

Delta continues to make significant progress in all areas of its restructuring including filing its plan of reorganization, which would have Delta emerge from Chapter 11 during spring 2007 as a stand-alone carrier.

Thanks for the update Kristie. DH saw it on his board as well and when I got home yesterday he was updating his log book. I asked him why (because he hasn't been in a great mood lately) and he said that Delta was hiring soon. He wil probably work on his application next week (and hopefully his FedEx one too....we'll see).

Word is from DAL that all of the furloughed pilots have been called up for recall - all the way down to Troy Kane who was the very last pilot on the seniority list...

also, they're looking at adding 500 or *more* new pilots next year!!

The offical letter was posted by Amber (MQAAord) on JC.. doug didn't send me a copy...

but here it is:

Quote:
Dear Delta Pilot,

Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing with you our intent to begin accepting pilot applications immediately and to begin interviewing pilot candidates early next year. That was exciting news, and was a clear indication that we were getting close to offering recall to all of our furloughed pilots. Today I am pleased to announce that our Furlough Outreach Coordinator has sent letters offering recall via UPS next-day air to our furloughed pilots in seniority order – including the final letter sent to Troy Kane, the junior pilot on the Delta seniority list. This is a significant event for all of us, especially for Troy and the other Delta pilots who have waited for more than five years for the opportunity to return to the Delta line. Please take the time to congratulate them in the training center and in the lounges over the course of the next few months.
word on the street via doug is that the new hire coordinator is looking heavily at Jetcareers members since the site is similar to being affiliated with an association (but isn't an offical association) and he believes in the website and those who have the "pay it forward" attitude...they're looking for well rounded candidates that are MORE than just pilots...so if your sig-O is a member of Jetcareers, has helped others get ahead in aviation via mentoring or networking, has the time required and knows doug...make sure he/she contacts doug because they're asking him explicitly for recommendations.

They must have sent out the recalls via carrier pidgeon! DH's cousin was a member of that famous last class and received nothing. He's probably gonna bypass to see what happens with the merger as he is in a very good place right now.

Apparently there is also a space on airlineapps.com (the company that does Delta's applications) for Delta "Legacy". Meaning if you have any one related to you that works for Delta you can have that added to your application. Looks like it will be who you are related to as well as who you know! But that's pretty much the way it is everywhere.

Troy Kane? sorry roz, you must be mistaken...doug says he's been on the dalpa forum saying he did recieve it.

have DH's cousin call his furlough sponsor or call Larry Deist! I'm sure there's something missing there.
