Default Is NWA on the brink of failure?

any NWA wives on the board that would care to input regarding this article.. please do...

http://money.cnn.com/2006/01/05/news...reut/index.htm

myself, I'd be there picketing with you if they push you to that point! It's absolutely unbelieveable that the pilot group & all employees would give so much in concessions only to have them spend it in the worst possible way...IMO, this is worse than the CEO taking a bonus for making a "profit"!!

unbelievable!!

Have you ladies reviewed the TA's? This stuff is frightening and impacts ALL of us!

Okay after some 'insider' consultation, I suppose this post is refering to "Northwest Wins Bid To Buy Independence Air Assets"

http://www.btnmag.com/businesstravel..._id=1002157752

That is terrible! and Kristie I agree with your statement that it is worse than a CEO bonus. I'm not very knowledgable about bankruptcy procedures, but I'm surprised they could pull something like that while in court. Sure, tie up more of NWA assets in FlyI (or remaining assets). What judge is putting their approval stamp on that?

The thing that really blows is the CEO is still going to get that killer bonus for "a wise investment." Augh! Makes me sick to my stomach.

Hey Roz, could you explain what a TA is. And where I could find such things. Thank you.

No, I think it had to do with management bonuses.

NWA has a master plan--albeit misguided. The plan is to downsize the domestic operation and use small jets for a good part of it. But they really don't want to own the small jets. The purchase of the FlyI operating certificate is so they can start a division to fly small jets and then sell it off without the lawsuits that the MDA pilots and FA's filed against US Airways (MDA was not a separate company--it is part of the mainline certificate). They fully intend to sell it--so pilots that vote for the TA thinking they are preserving their jobs are misguided. So, to accomplish the master plan, the purchase of the FlyI certificate is necessary.

In addition to the TA which proposes new work rules that increase the number of hours flown each month and decrease vacation--all of which will eliminate about 1,000 pilot jobs, there is the elimination of the DC-9 fleet. That will eliminate 1500 pilot jobs as those planes are replaced by small jets. So, a lot of pilots will lose their jobs and a lot more will downgrade to FO from CA.

A TA is a tentative agreement. Here it is:

you know.. so many things have been going on that i don't even remember what that article was about...

I think it had to do with something about outsourcing the jobs or the new regional they're going to create...i just don't fully remember.

Isn't it awful that there are so many options as to what they are doing that's wrong and immoral?

yup, it certainly is! you should hear what's going on at DAL....2 completely different stories from mgmt.. one says "we're making a profit, things are turning around...we're up $400 million" and the other says "we're going down unless pilots can give another 18%+" and "pilots are the only labor group holding us down". amazing!!

And isn't it a shame that other industries are now starting to follow suit! The auto industry is starting (or rather has been) doing alot of the shady things the aviation industry has been doing. Once companies realized that employees will take pay cuts (if threatened with losing their jobs) then they all find a way to do the same thing.

Makes me sick!

I remember that, when my sister was still at Ford, she told me they spent two million dollars on a party at the Paris Auto Show in 2000.

I see the NWA ALPA is not making a recommendation on the TA. That says a lot!
