Default United's Channel 9....

So, I flew United this past weekend.. can't remember the last time i flew United but i LOVED it... the economy plus seating was awesome... i had at least a good 6 inches from my knees to the seat in front of me.. my backpack (full) actually FIT under the seat in front of me and i had plenty of foot room to twitch around... it was AMAZING!!! I *wish* delta had features like that..i hear they're working on it, but it just won't be soon enough for me!

the thing i loved even more than the seating was Channel 9....Channel 9 is the ATC frequency and you can listen from taxi to takeoff to cruise to landing to parking....the ENTIRE time... with doug sitting next to me (got lucky there!), he would answer any questions i had and i learned an extreme amount of new information...I AM hooked...

It was so interesting to hear about the different airspace frequency's comingling with the different tier's and center tracon's...all the different voices...different ways of communicating information back...just too darn cool!! I cannot WAIT until Delta has something like that (if they ever do). As it is, I plan on flying united again.. their service was good, entertainment entertaining and seats were pretty darn comfy.

I told doug i wanted him to get me a scanner for xmas...all he said is "geez, next your gonna want flight lessons so you can right seat drive me huh?"

another funny thing.. is that i actually think my husband enjoys answering my questions and is glad i'm so interested in his "work". but he is kinda afraid i may step up to do it myself since, as he says, it's never to late to start! hahaha

^ Channel 9 might be the only reason I insist on flying United. I even buy flights on united!

I've been wanting to do the flying thing too, but DH says its a bad career move. Ironic, but whatever.

Hmm... I think that I'm going to have to book my next flight on United, now! That sounds really interesting.

Why not learn to fly?? I think it would be fun! It doesn't have to be a career, after all... you could just do it for fun. I've been bugging my bf for a while now to teach me. He says that he thinks he wouldn't be hard enough on me. :-P

i bet if anything, he would probably be harder than you because of his known expectations of you! best part would be how cheap it would be to learn cuz heck, you don't have to pay the CFI.. you just have to pay for the plane/gas! haha

Trust me, having the Dh be the CFI is definitely hard. It is a fun way to bond, though.

LOL! If the general public knew how little they were actually paying the CFI anyway, they'd be shocked! Most of that money goes to gas, insurance, and the company... not the instructor LOL~

The reason DH hasn't taught me how to fly yet is because of insurance. The nice part about working for "the man" is that they take all of the insurance risk. If he does it on the side for me, and I wreck a plane then we'd have to eat the cost.

DH and I joke that if I got my pilots license and went into the aviation business, i'd probably be a captain before he will! LOL!

The boyfriend I lived with in college was also my flight instructor. I liked it, but I think it was tougher on him. But he did make me cry once!

I loved listening to that channel on UA when I was a kid. I thought after 9/11 they would have stopped that. Glad it is still available.
