That's correct Amber. But only a few states will grant unemployment to someone who voluntarily quit a job and then was laid off without earning six weeks or so of wages in the new job. We learned that after 9/11 when there were massive layoffs in lots of industries as a fall out. People who innocently left jobs in August, 2001 to pursue better opportunities were laid off. In some states, they were out of luck. In others, they could collect. Unemployment is state run, so the rules vary by state.

I had 4 1/2 months with AA when 9/11 happened, so I was in the very first wave to hit the streets (9/27). One 9/10, life was great, I had it all. Two weeks later I was homeless, jobless & broke.

My sympathies to EVERYONE who goes through a furlough, and I hope they live in one of those states where they CAN file!

DH had 1 day of training (started 9/10) with COEX when 9/11 happened. First rumor was that they were out of luck on the furlough because they didn't have the sim yet. About 1 heartbreaking month later they announced that the 9/10 class was on the furlough list (whew!). Bottom of 400 or so furloughees was a lot of fun, but then we decided not to go back to COEX in the end. Turned out it was the wrong decision.

But then again I'd be stuck in Texas. :barf:

I bet our friend was in your husband's class. His first day of training with CoEx was also 9/10/01. He ended up at Commutair for a little while, came back to CoEx for a very short time (9 months) and is at Comair now. I am guessing he is a pro in the sims now that he has been through training so much in the last couple of years.
