| Just to share with everyone... Mesa already has furloughed. I am one of four new-hires who started training and was furloughed after a little over a week. We were in the CRJ FO class, and now we're waiting (hopefully not toooo long) to come back. I don't think this necessarily means that the guys and gals already flying for Mesa or Air Midwest will be furloughed, as the company is still growing. Im glad the Air Midwest pilots are getting to go over to the jets, but what sucks is that all the new-hires were furloughed as a result of this. Oh well - I guess its good for the company, but I had just left a flying job for this. Any advice? |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Here's a dumb question of the night... what's the difference between a furlough and a new hire class being "put on hold"? I thought the Mesa classes were just being pushed back to Feb or March. Nick is hoping to get on the jet...but is hoping even more to get out of Mesa and fly for AWA! His (and our) QOL will improve once he's based in PHX!! |

| If you are in a new hire class that has been put on hold (like before class even started) you are not and have never been officially an employee yet, and the company does not owe you anything. Up to and including a spot in any future class. If you're furloughed, you are no longer technically an 'employee', but you retain the recall rights set out in the company policy/union contract. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Amanda, what I heard is that four 1900 crew were displaced and put into CRJ school. That bumped four new hires out of class. So they were hired, and now furloughed. My question for the original poster is what was the last state worked? Unemployment compensation could be paid, depending upon the state. But I can't help if I don't know the state! |

| Aaaah, I should've read all the posts here..... Yes, if you've started class, and have a senority # you are furloughed. New hire pilots are considered employees from the day they start class, unlike (most airline's) flight attendants, who are not employees until the day after graduation. When I was first furloughed from AA, I filed unemployement with my state of residency (Wisconsin) they forwarded the claim to the state where I was employed (Illinois). I actually recieved benefits from the state of Illinois, because that's where I actually worked. |
