| Admin/Owner ![]() | I can now prove that recirculated air on airplanes spreads germs! nobody I know was in contact with anyone who had a cold or had a cold themselves...and I was perfectly fine when I left the state... Now, I have a dangblastit cold and I just KNOW it's from that recirculated air on the plane I took back home! THIS SUCKS! I have no time for a cold right now... in two weeks, maybe.. but not right now! Anyone have any ideas to get it to move thru the body faster? it's too late to go the zinc route! ![]() |

| Contrary to popular belief, the air on planes is not the same air going through the airplane over and over and over again. Air is always coming into and going out of the airplane. The air is actually replaced about 4 times an hour. The issue is the close proximity of each passenger to 150 other passengers, the same as being on a bus or in a crowded theater. |

| I just got back from flying across this country with my kids and I swear, all I could hear on that plane was people hacking, snorting, coughing, spreading germs everywhere! I don't have time for sickness to hit with the movers coming next week and me packing.....eeeaks! I'm arming my kids with eichinachea (?spelling) and multivitamins! That's the one thing I hate about flying, you never know what you're getting on board with! How do the F/A's do it or do they just get really immune to everything! At least when I was working at the hospital I knew what I was being exposed to! |

| When I was an F/A, I kept those antibacterial wipes with me at all times. I wiped down every surface in the galley (including the PA) and everything else I touched on a regular basis. Everytime I walked through the cabin I wiped my hands down and I took major doses of vitamin C & E every night. I still got sick occasionally, but some of my friends were sick almost the whole first year before they built up some immunities. Jason takes all of those same precautions now (the cockpits are disgusting, as they are not cleaned by the cleaning crews that take care of the cabins). And he is rarely sick. Jason is really bummed about the flu shot shortage this year. He thinks pilots and FA's should be considered high risk. I told him I'd rather he got the shot instead of me because I'm more likely to catch something he brings home from work than from going to the park, etc... Doctors around here are being threatened with jail time if they give the shot to anyone not in a high risk group. |

| As a F/A I spent my first two years constantly sick off and on. Then the immunity stepped in, and in my last 5 years I was sick exactly once. Basically just be smart, wash hands often, don't stick your fingers in your eyes, and if you notice someone who is sick just stay as far from them as possible. Personally, I don't want and am not going to get a flu shot, though I'm in the high risk group (pregnant). I made sure Alex got his, but I am perfectly healthy otherwise, and I would rather the shots go to people who really need it. Like seniors who aren't as able to fend off serious disease, or babies. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. I will be discussing this with my doctor next week. She really pushes for her pregnant patients to get the shot, but since I'm pretty healthy, take my vitamins, go to bed when I'm tired, etc.....I'd rather someone else got my shot. (Jason thinks I'm nuts. He says its "every man for himself this year and if you can get shot go for it!) Jason's 89 year old Grandma and 93 year old Great Aunt haven't been able to get their shots this year. They are too old to wait in the long lines and their doctor doesn't have any shots left. His aunt's health is failing and if she gets the flu this year we aren't sure she could survive it. It is such a shame..... |

| We're all skipping the shots this year for the same reasons. We're all healthy, and both my kids are over the age of 2. I would rather forgo our shots and give them to someone who really needs them. We're just going to arm ourselves with vitamins and avoid playlands and stuff like that during the flu season. My ds#2 is in kindergarten but I'm really hoping that if someone has the flu, they'll be to sick to go to school. |
