| Admin/Owner ![]() | on 9/11? since we have quite a few new peeps, figured i'd ask.... Doug was in Boston - supposed to fly out about 11:45AM out of Logan. Needless to say, that didn't happen but what did happen is that Delta lost all of the BOS/NY crews that were in the area... literally!! scheduling kept telling them to stay put, so for 6 days, a good 12 pilots (just in boston alone) hung out at the Mccormick & Schmicks waiting to hear back from Delta about what they wanted them to do - they never did call back with instructions. after 6 days, he decided to try and jump home...he almost decided to drive home - can you imagine how long that would have taken!? whew!!! A few days during, the hotel across from doug's was raided as that was one of the hotels that the hijackers stayed at...it was quite nervewrackiing for him....and me When i called him that morning, he was getting ready for work and didn't have the boob tube on...as soon as i told him there was no WAY he was flying out of Logan today, he didn't understand why and i had him turn on the tv...about then, his mom and everyone started calling him, so i let him go to take those calls...but it was just a mess up there!

| He was in new hire training, just having passed the initial ops exam. They took a break and were all sharing their hard knocks stories of being furloughed from one carrier to the next. Only he and one other member of the class left jobs to take this one. Well, they came back from break to watch the events on TV and plan for their inevitable furlough that week. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Brendan was in upgrade training in Houston (going from Brazilla CA to Jet CA). Needless to say a few months after that he was downgraded to FO (with all the furloughs from Express and backflows from CAL). Odd thing is, he is in recurrent training today. In the exact same place he was 5 years ago.... |

| I had just dropped Mike off at the airport and heard about it on the radio on the way home. I rushed home and turned on the TV and then the second one hit. I was pregnant with our twins and freaking out not knowing if Mike had taken off yet and if I should go and get our son from school not knowing what in the world was going on. I then called Mike's parents who live right in NYC and they didn't even know anything was happening. They then looked out the window of their apartment and saw the smoke in the sky. Thankfully, Mike called home soon and they had grounded all the flights before he took off. |

| Roz, My DH had a similar experience. Josh was in new hire training in Houston TX with COEX. They had started training on Sept 10. I believe they announced in the class what happened in NYC and watched on one of the televisions. They actually told the whole class that they would be laid off not forloughed. Luckily, they contacted the entire class and added them to the bottom of the furlough list a few weeks later. He was stuck in Houston for most that week until flights started up again. This was his first big break into the airlines and flying jets. He was absolutely crushed when he got back home and there is a month break in his log book after 9/11. That day: I woke up to my radio anouncing what had happened, this was just before the building collapse. I turned on the TV and pretty much fell into the 9/11 shock at that point (didn't we all?). Several TV specials during the 5th anniversary actually surprised me. I didn't remember anyone being rescued after the collapse. Also, my dad was in Washington DC on 9/11. He was supposed to have a meeting across the street from the Pentagon that day. Freaked me out when I couldn't get ahold of him that day because of the log jam on the cell phones.
