| (CNN) -- A Delta commuter flight -- en route from Lexington, Kentucky, to Atlanta, Georgia -- crashed just after take-off from Blue Grass Airport on Sunday, and airlines and airport officials reported "multiple fatalities." Federal Aviation Administration officials said Delta Flight 5191 -- which was operated by Delta's commuter carrier, Comair -- crashed around 7 a.m. ET in a wooded area about a mile from the Lexington airport on its way to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. At least 50 people were aboard the flight and it is not known if anyone survived, the officials said. Delta Flight 5191 was scheduled to land at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport at 7:18 a.m. The aircraft was a Bombardier Canadian Regional Jet (CRJ) 100, FAA officials said. |

| Thanks for posting about this crash...I don't usually turn on the TV on Sundays & this happened after the newspaper was printed. I signed on here this morning & this was the first I heard about it...I was just so shocked to see that this was so close to home. I don't know many people who would travel out of Lexington, but you never know... It is so sad for the families. My thoughts and prayers are with them. |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | apparently, the FO is in surgery. I hope he makes it so he can tell us what happened. Word is out there that they may have taken the wrong runway and since it's one of the first flights of the day, fatigue might have been involved by either the crew or ATC - who knows. I'm hoping that they check into that. It seems to me that the captain had plenty of experience. but it's just horrid news to get early on a sunday morning out here...We'll have to see what happens. Hug your pilots today (if you see them)!! I'm praying the FO makes it.

| My thoughts are with all involved. They are saying that two of the passengers just were married last night at the Headley Whitney Museum with 300 guests under the stars and on their way to their honeymoon and that there were a number of prominent business people on board. In one interview, they said the crew came in at 11:55 PM last night--could that be possible? Local radar (not national) picked up a dying storm that was directly over the airport at the time of takeoff also with a heavy downpour and downward burst of air. | Roz, The only way that would be possible for crew rest purposes is if they were doing a high speed, stand-up, or continuous duty overnight. (they are called different things at different airlines) From some stuff I saw on other message boards, they say COMAIR does not do those on that specific city pair, LEX-ATL. I thought I had heard someone state they came in at 9:45pm last night. If that was the case and they could have been legal to show at 05:45am . Sometimes, due to van schedule etc, crews actually get to the airport before they are due and do their preflight stuff, but technically are not on duty until the 8 hours, that is why they could have still went on time, that is assuming rest was a factor. From other reports I have seen, it does seem that they did take off from the wrong runway. Bill told me that it can be very confusing there how the runways/taxiways are setup, they have been doing construction there that is so recent the Jepp charts have not yet been updated, that combined with it being dark, possible fatigue etc. seems like a perfect setup for a disaster. www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/15375985.htm I hope the FO makes it through surgery. I also heard that an XJT pilot may have had family on the flight as well. |

| Another thing, most likely there was only one guy working in the tower, doing ATIS, tower, ground, etc. Bill said Providence used to be like that during certain times of the day and it is not that uncommon. |
