BP shut down the biggest oilfield in the United States today after finding "severe corrosion" in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay pipeline. The shutdown could send gas prices to a record high, said industry analyst Tom Kloza. "Prices are likely to rise 3 to 5 cents a gallon for the next few days," he said.

not to mention people out there that have no other mode of transportation.. from what i've heard in our area here, some folks are having to quit their jobs and take jobs closer to home because they can't afford live and pay those types of gas prices (of course, it depends on the type of car they drive too).

heck, i think if i had the opportunity to telecommute, now would be a good time to start!!
