| Ah, but now, a lot of other countries are feeling the immediate impact of the US recession. China is now becoming the biggest oil guzzler--the oil producing countries use that as an excuse to raise prices. While they are exporting more and more, after the Olympics, they will feel the strain of fewer buyers here. What I was saying that was, while, in the past, US recessions were not felt as much globally, it is now a global economy. It is being felt. I witnessed it firsthand on some overseas visits. |

| Who pays for the fuel, either the regional or mainline, is negotiated in their agreement, so it varies. If there is a recession, it is nowhere near where I live! Restaurants are busy, stores are crowded, houses are selling, and it doesn't seem like there is any fewer cars on the road! Jan |

| The gas stations are still full of people! But really, what are we supposed to do? You still have to go to work and grocery stores, so you have to drive. I was at a couple of retail stores yesterday and they were packed too. We are going to Disney in September and in trying to book dinner reservations, everything is booked or almost booked. So looks like people are still vacationing too. The loads have been tight lately also, and they haven't even started their cutbacks yet.

yea.. gas stations and grocery stores are packed because it's "business as usual"...there's no supply or demand problem, just higher than normal prices which affects everything down the line. I have seen quite a few tourists here in phx lately from outside the US and i do think the airline have already started downsizing their plane types because it's not normal for DAL ER to by flying 757's over the pond. it's typically either 767 or 777 so there's got to be something with that.

| Kristie- I ask Lance and he did say that Delta pays for skywest delta connections fuel. but skywest has something like 8% of their own flights, so that is what we think the write up was about...I promise not trying to doubt you, like I said sooo much floats around out there.

| Well XJT says good-bye to branded.... not just LAX and SAT but ONT too. The last day of branded is Sept. 2nd! XJT furloughs will begain October 1st, but I say yeah right. They will drop the axe on that before then. They just dont want all their pilots jumping ship before then. |

We had the same experience of hearing of all of this first from another employee, then from the news media, then from the union and only now the "official" word. DH is a first year FO and his hire date anniversary is in the end of August - so we were just about to finally move up to good ole second year pay - now back to - ??? flight instruction maybe? We relocated to LA for his job, now we're not sure what to do. So is the nature of the airline industry, I suppose. Part of the price of living the dream. | |
