Interesting story: Old family friends know a DAL Capt. Their son got interested in flying listening to this Capt tell him about his mega salary and lifestyle. So they put their son through Purdue. He graduated in 2006 and went to work for the local FBO that is owned by a very senior CAL Capt who is very connected. He quit after a month because the work was beneath him (his words). He flew somewhere else till he got hired at PSA in Sept, 2007. He said he would never consider PDT as they didn't fly real planes. So, we were at a party with the family two weeks ago. Dad was saying that his DAL Capt friend lost his pension and was struggling as he never saved anything all these years because he was counting on the pension. Son was saying that life is great at PSA. He had nothing to say to DH--you'd think he'd want to ask another Capt about "things". Nope, life was good. He had an overnight in New Orleans so it was all good. And he told everyone that he worked for US Airways. What's he gonna be like when he turns 25? | |

| Perhaps you should research some facts about the DL CAPT "losing" his pension... Many pensions were taken away a few years ago and some are being reimbursed IN PART in the near future. Pilots didn't have to retire to get scr**ed out of their earned pension plans. Um--wouldn't you count on the pension plan you paid into for years??? |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Why the hostile tone of your post? Why do I have to research anything? I simply repeated what our friend had said to set the context for my story about his son who has been in the industry less than one year and has a know it all attitude. |

I'm pretty sure that Capt didn't lose his full pension....even Doug's been getting reimbursed in spurts these past few years. not as a pension mind you, but as actual cash to roll into his own retirement account.

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | But I wasn't talking about whether or not he lost his pension. Our friend was talking about the sad state of the industry and telling us what his friend at Delta had been saying. His son, the newly minted PSA pilot disagreed and said everything was great because they only had 27 on the street (as of that day--now more are announced) and he had an overnight in New Orleans the next day. My point was about the kid's attitude, that's all! I know what the DAL pilots are getting--I follow all the events of the industry. So, I took the comment that I needed to research as over the top. So Mrs767ER may talk straight up, to the point--but she missed my point! |
