| Lance was talking to a good friend of ours who is now the cheif pilot for pan am flight school, and I guess China is DESPRITE for pilots. They (pan am) have a deal with a chinese airline that you sign a two year FO contract, and you start at 120k!!!! yep thats right 120K! straight out of flight school...or I should say flight instructing they do require min. flight times, but they were pretty low. Lance forward the info to his last CA that he flew with. the guy was burned out on regional flying and didn't think he was making the "jump" anytime soon. so I guess any of you who are able to reloacate maybe China?

| Well, 120k would sure go a LONG way in China! I've always considered teaching ESL there, since I studied Mandarin for 4 years in college... I'll mention it to my Hubby... I doubt that he'd actually want to relocate that far away, though... |

These airlines are paying really really good too, it's almost worth a look, especially if times are hard for your pilot... |

| I know with Cathy you can be based in the states if you want to fly cargo, Dh keeps talking about applying once he gets back to work..That would be great if Emarites did the same thing!

| I'm glad you talked to someone who is actually doing this but I have to add a few words of caution. Spartan School of Aeronautics here in Tulsa had a contract with the Chinese gov for a few years. One of Jarred's students is now an instructor for one of their mainlines! The way that contract worked was that the students came here to the states to train through their MEI, then went back to China to do their types. Spartan tried to do a deal where Spartan instructors would go to China and teach but it fell through (maybe your friend's company got the deal instead). The problem was that several instructors had sold their homes and everything and it fell apart at the last minute. It was a VERY interesting experience to say the least, teaching those students. That group was the "cream of the crop" so to speak in terms of high intelligence and test scores. They did well with the book learning as that was their educational experience/background but were not always able to translate that into the cockpit and actual flying. There was also the language barrier. These students were supposedly chosen for their high English skills but again, not always the case. I imagine this would be a greater prob when teaching in China without the benefit of being emmersed in an English speaking culture. And then some incidentals like the food they eat creates a unique body odor that can be very overpowering when combined with cultural hygene differences, Oklahoma summers and Cessna cockpits! Now with all that said, we loved a couple of DH's students. We learned a lot from each other. My fav was that in China, new mothers are required to stay in bed for a month and do nothing -not even bathe! Jarred's students were appalled when we brought our first baby to the school when he was three days old. Our fav student, who we called Neo, was very disappointed in Jarred's husbandly behavior! So, like with any opportunity, I guess I'm saying approach it with caution and skepticism and really, really do your homework! Jackie

actually lance taught chinese students for years, and they are horrbile flyers, like you said they are very book smart but not street smart. BUT this is actual america pilots that are going over and flying on the internation and chinese airlines, not instructing. They have to sign a two year deal as a FO. But I guess the chinese airlines make a VERY nice deal for you to stay and fly as a CA (in terms of money). Our friend runs the flight school out of phoenix, which has deals with almost all of the airlines (regionals) that get their pilots on with reduced hours. this is just another contract that the school has set up as an option that the senior flight instructors can look into once they have their hours. The main difference with this is the go straight to the big planes, thats why they have to be a FO for at least two years.

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | BStory, You know what I accidently put the wrong city! You are right, Dubai is the one I meant to put. And I know some airlines outside of the us are considering opening US bases.. Which ones I'm not sure. Sorry for the confusion! |

Oh, gottcha! Sorry, I misunderstood. An interesting opportunity not only for the pilot but also for families. What a way to learn Chinese -a skill that I think will become more and more marketable in our children's lifetime. However, we have such a large family here. I couldn't justify taking our kids away from them. It would be too hard to travel back and forth frequently enough to make up for it in terms of the length of the flight. Maybe if we didn't have those family ties....... ![]() ![]() ![]() Jackie
