Default Airline instability....

The only advice i want to give right now is STAY PUT.....remember, aviation industry is kinda like the stock industry...you just gotta ride it out.

that's really all i want to say...

now granted, if you're in a tumultuous regional airline like Mesa (who is pretty darn certain to go belly up), you might want to scoot as fast as you can to something more stable (Republic, Colgan, SKW are a few who don't seem to be showing strain quite yet)...If you're at a major or LLC, you have no choice but to stay put otherwise you risk your seniority....but if you're CFIing, in cargo, in corporate and want to get into the world of "airline", you're gonna want to stay put for now, keep working on those total time/PIC numbers, until this roller coaster lets up some...enough for mgmt to get their eggs put in the right place to keep the boats afloat. nobody is safe right now with what's going on out there.

it's looking like it's going to take a while to come out of this (more than just the 9 months everyone thought it would take) and no doubt there will be numbers on the street looking for new jobs (some already are). it'll be advantageous for those who want to get into the airlines (and already aren't) to get your numbers as HIGH as possible (esp Multi & PIC) because the numbers game is most likely for sure going to increase. we probably won't see 250/50 hour guys/gals flying the regional skies anymore after all this is said and done.

keep optimistic though because just like the stock market, the airline market is entirely cyclical.. so it WILL come back up. it's just a matter of when.

Definitely good advice. We moved to Atlanta 6 years ago for Delta and my husband's goals took five years longer to accomplish due to all this mess.

I needed a pep talk too. I heard a report on NBC nighly news about how bad things are going to get and how the regionals are going to get hit hard (will be a report about it in tomorrow's USA Today). Just make me really nervous.

Yes, very good words to read...it really is tough to see the light at the end of the tunnel at this point, but we just have to remain positive...BF is really going through a hard time, he's at Republic, but even there, there are rumors, scary stuff, and for me, I have never had to deal with something like this, so it's all new...
But keep chugging along...

yup, i think the regional system is going to get slammed. enough that they might go back to being "commuters" with mainly t-props (Q400s types).

where mainline airline is only flying from hub to hub or major metropolitan domestic cities (BIG cities like Chicago, Seattle etc) and international only.

so then you'd take a t-prop from any smaller than major metropolitan city to a hub and catch mainline from there.
