Default May Air Traffic Reports

I don't know if anyone wants to read the nitty gritty but the traffic reports for May are coming out. After reading so many negative articles, I wasn't expecting it, but so far Southwest 7% (duh), AirTran 18.2%, Republic Airways 21.7% are reporting increases in May paying passengers. American Eagle had a 9.5% drop. And American Airlines was flat. So far, it is been way better than I expecting.

Republic Airways traffic jumps 21.7 percent in May: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance
Southwest Airlines traffic up 7% in May - Business First of Columbus:
AirTran Airways: May traffic climbs 18.2% - MarketWatch
American Eagle traffic falls 9.5 percent in May: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance
American Airlines traffic dips 1.1 percent in May: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

Just recieved info that Continental is reporting a 7% increase also for May.

Continental Announces May Performance

A personal YEA! for Republic Airways, since my hubby works for them.

Default Re: May Air Traffic Reports

doesn't surprise me but i wonder if it's really an increase since a lot of companies are ditching planes and flying smaller planes & more flights to fill up those planes...

ie: DAL is running 2 flights per day now on 737's instead of 757's to JFK and they're PACKED...well, go fig... they were at 2 flights before using 757's and packed then too. so obviously, it'd make it look like traffic is up.

i tell ya... between gas prices and the rising costs at the airlines (UAL is now charging a $15/1st checked bag fee now too)... I think a lot of people will probably be staying home for vacation and then the media will turn it into doom and gloom that even though there was increased traffic, the amount of passengers using the airlines was down "drastically" for the first time in years...

just like the media does every xmas season in regards to retail puchases.

:p
