GRAPEVINE SPECULATION ALERT: Rumor that Compass and ComAir will both be sold. Rumor that Republic might purchase Compass since they also fly the same equipment.

Also the newspapers are reporting that all the current bases will stay open.

Thanks for the MEC definition. Fiance knew of it and hears it, but didn't know what it stands for.

A while back Kristie turned me onto the Patrick Smith column at salon.com. That same site has a Garrison Keillor column. Those of you from the upper midwest surely know of this man. He's a native Minnesotan and in his latest posting he sings the blues about the merger announcement. Its a fun and entertaining read:

Garrison Keillor, Those Delta blues | Salon
(there might be an intro page you'll have to click past to get to the write up)

Regarding the bases, the email I received via World Perks indicates the bases will all remain open:

Continue to serve our current roster of destinations and to maintain our hubs in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Memphis, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York, Salt Lake City, Amsterdam and Tokyo.

As a Minnesota girl, who of course knows Garrison Keillor (as every good Minnesotan does dontcha know) the article really hit home. I've been flying Northwest yearly since I was a little girl. The airline has such a prominent place in Minnesota, it'll be strange when it's gone.

Awww snap.. all I know is I have Delta flight benefits and if this all happens, I will be able to non-rev on Northwest routes! I hope they don't decide to ditch the Detroit hub... they already have a beautiful terminal and are currently building a brand new one...

I'm trying to be positive...

but other than that, I'm pretty darn sure there's not going to be a DoH stapling...it'll be a ratio of DAL to NWA (esp since DAL is acquiring NWA)...but we'll see what happens. I don't want to see NWA pilots lose out either but there's no way they can possibly expect to displace ALL the delta pilots by DoH...if they get the right ratio going, everyone will stay comfortably in the plane/seniority they are. I have no idea what will happen regionally.

but who knows, these things are never seemless.

I'd like to hear what the NWA side is hearing...Wanda, you on board? what is your hubby telling you about the NWA side of things?

I think my biggest concern right now is with maintenance....NWA MX has some scabs on board (from when they last striked) and Delta's MX non tooo happy that they're coming on board and that they have to work with them.

of course, this is all 2nd hand info. I just hope both MEC's work something out before it's forced upon them.

EDIT: Well, word is that the NWA MEC is going to try and stop the merger. They think there is too much at stake and yea, i agree, they have a lot at stake....but letting it go to arbitration isn't going to be a win-win situation IMO....it'd be better if the two MEC's just try to work through the mess if they have to.

Kristie, I haven't heard anything more than what everyone else has posted. I don't really know what to say at this point until we see how it all unfolds.

It has to get past the antitrust approval before anything will happen.
