I know I maybe stirring up a hornet's nest, but there is some information that the FAA is just flexing it's a strong arm tactics after the Southwest fiasco, that this was not the sever safety issue that the press is making this out to be.

flights?

Thanks. Via the flat medium of forums, sometimes I think I come across as "anti safety" to some people. When really I am just an information junkie who likes to hear many different sides of a story.

Well, if you guys aren't tired of me and this topic. . . Allied Pilots Association (APA) ran an over half the page ad in the USA Today inviting folks to go to their website and tell their story about American Airlines and being stranded. Some of it is pretty hard core. There are some pictures and verbage along the side bashing the CEO.

The ad. . .

From Joan S., flight canceled--with hundreds of others--when AA shut down due to "weather," although 8 miles away, Southwest canceled only 5 flights:
Cost to You: more than money.

Bought tickets on AA to Orlando with a loan from my parents for one last trip before hubby leaves for Iraq for 15 months. Scrimped for 5 Disney passes; at DFW Tuesday, AA cancels our flight. We become standby, sleep on floor for two nights, finally reach Orlando Thursday night, have one day, come home as reserved Saturday. Hubby's gone till next year, kids are heartbroken, vacation was agony. The Disney passes don't expire, so maybe we can go back next year when he gets home--but not on American ever again.

This one was pretty bad... What about the little known travel rule (the number of the rule escapes me) that says that if the airline cancel a flight for any reason other than weather, they have to put you on the next flight to your destination, no matter the airline. People just don't know to invoke that rule, but it is a passenger right. (I learned about it from Peter Greenberg, the supposed travel guru)

Rule 240, doesn't exist since airline deregulation but many airlines still have some form of it in their contracts that passengers can ask for.

But Mrs Alchemist is correct, Peter Greenberg explains it best. . .

Whoa, that is a horrible story about being stranded. . .

I like how he emphasizes being nice to gate agents... In almost all cases, it REALLY HELPS! I've gotten re-routed on another airline when I wanted to for no good reason, except that I asked politely, and let them know that I really needed to get back in time to go to work. I know what most of us on this website have some sort of travel benefits, so the point is null, but it really works! See... I'm hijacking my own thread again... Oh well

Sorry I am going to piggyback on your last post. I stood behind a ticket counter or gate for 9 years and I wouldn't know where to begin in regards to passengers. I have seen and heard it all......
