| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Hi Mollie, My fiance holds a second job. He's currently on 1st year FO pay w/ a regional ... and we live in CA. To supplement his flying income he works part time at a local produce company. Before he went to the regionals, he was their co-pilot for the company plane (King Air 200). But times got hard for the company and they sold their plane. W/ no plane, they have no need for a pilot ... hence the regionals. But they kept him on board anyway as their web/graphic/media guy. So on the road he can do a lot of work for them during down time in hotels and terminals. And when he's home during week days, he goes into the office. So w/ regional pay + 2nd job pay, he makes enough to survive out here in CA. |

| I know of one pilot (1st year regional) who moved to his new base and is looking into CFI-ing in his new city... Why not if he already has the license, right? |

| Jetgirls Member | There is probably a clause somewhere that prevents any other flying jobs. The airline wants you to be available to them for your full 100 hours of availability per month, especially if they have to change a trip due to weather or something unforseen. But any non aviation job is probably OK. I know there are guys at XJet who are tax preparers, contractors and restaurant owners. Kim

| Well, the guy I am talking about does not have any such clause precluding him from teaching in his free time... Plus he will be able to make his own schedule, and cancel with students when necessary... Anyhow, he only flew on reserve for 5 hours in a two month period... That leaves A LOT of spare time!!! |

| Our first year, even though DH held a line and was not on reserve, he was based out of Palm Springs, CA. We live in Oklahoma. His four day trips turned into six day trips as he needed a full day to travel. So there was no time for extra jobs here. Now that he's based in DEN we're a lot better off. We've actually been thinking about him picking up a student or two -especially one he taught before he left for the regionals. We've also talked about getting an editing job or something like it to do on the road, but never really got into it. Jackie

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Our flight school here in Concord, NC employs several regional FOs...we have an Eagle FO, Chataqua(I know totally butchered that but you get), PSA...these guys are line holders and have been with the company for 2+ years, so they are getting at least 14-15-16 days off...others I know have worked for charter companies where they get paid by trip and most of them are just day trips...I too have heard that airlines have flying rules and such...but the pilots here are pretty good at keeping withing their flying timeframes...

| I am suprised at the second flying jobs. I ask Lance all the time about doing instrusting on the side, and he says that you can't be paid for hours that could count against his flight hours for the real job.
