Question crew security

My fiance is getting ready for a trip and is looking forward to going through security in his uniform as crew. This was recently brought up in a thread about "flying w/ hubby." Does he need to pack his toiletries in small containers (< 4 oz) in a quart size ziploc bag? Or can he take larger volume toiletries in just his normal toiletry kit?

He can take what ever size and quantity he needs to take. Crew members, in uniform, don't have to follow that liquids rule that everyone else has to follow. Oh, and he doesn't have to put it in a zip lock. DH just uses he usual bathroom bag.

same here...when dh has his uniform on, he just keeps his regular sized toiletry items in his toiletry bag and goes thru security like normal.

now, if he wasn't wearing his uniform, it'd be an entirely different situation.

Just a warning - if he flies internationally, particularly to the UK, the bottle size thing DOES apply, and security are being very unpleasant with crews at the moment - subjecting them to very personal searches, refusing to allow contact lens solution on board, etc. Hubbie takes a see through plastic bag on board with small bottles inside. And the rule also applies to paste, so make sure any tooth paste is small, too.

Nick still packs his toiletries in a ziplock and using the 3 oz size restrictions. Better to be safe than sorry (and lose your stuff to the TSA).

I'll have to ask him about this when he gets home from DUB today.

Looks like he doesn't have to use the 3 oz but does so just to be careful and b/c there are different Int'l rules too. He doesn't have a lot of stuff to pack too- he's not like me with all my makeup and hair products! I stuff those bags until they are bulging!

Thanks for the tips! For now all his travel will be mostly domestic (N. America).

What about a laptop? Does he have to remove that from his bag to pass it through the x-ray?

Yes, he'll have to take it out of the bag. At least that's what my DH does.

As for the other stuff, he packs whatever he wants. It's nice when I travel with him because he has to haul all of my toiletries too! LOL!

Welp, he made it through security at SJC. He went through uniformed, though he said it really didn't save him anything b/c there was no line at security. He was still subject to all the removal of pocket contents, belt, shoes, jacket, etc ... But as you all indicated, he was permitted to have his regular toiletries.

On a side note, he got to jump seat to MSP -- his first time doing that. I'm sure he was like a bright-eyed kid in a candy store (though he made sure to keep his hands at his sides)!
