Default i can non-rev! educate me...

ok ladies (and gents) I'm officially John's "travel partner." He's working for XJet, so I get benefits on CAL. I know the basics of what this entails (flying stand by, don't be bitchy and get him fired, etc) but other than that I'm pretty clueless as to how it all works. Is there a non rev for dummies website out there? Like, walk me through the process from the days before checking flight loads (where/how do i do that?) to how to go through security without a boarding pass, what do I say to the gate agent, what forms do I fill out (if any?) etc etc etc.

So...who wants to go somewhere?!

Welcome to non-rev!

First of all you have to be flexible. I posted on Amanda's trip post about once taking my son to Space Camp in Orlando and going home to Philly via Columbus. So, you have to be prepared to come up with creative routes. If you absolutely need to be there, go several days in advance or buy a ticket!

You'll have to go to the ticket counter to get a boarding pass or else a pass through security pass. They might not issue a boarding pass if the flight is full. But they will give you a pass to get through security. Remember all rules apply about 3 ounces in a zip lock bag, no other liquids or gels, etc. And be prepared to be singled out for searches because you are fitting the profile and the screeners have a quota. You are an easy target because you can't fuss with them or the pilot could lose his job.

I don't non-rev much anymore because my company buys me tix for my frequent traveling for work and I have so many points for vacation tix. But it's always an adventure!

Welcome again to the world!

wanna go to Germany? leaving on Saturday for oktoberfest... or maybe you could meet us over there?

but, you'd probably have to fly to Frankfurt first since CAL doesn't go to Stuttgart right off....but taking the train ain't bad and i know you've already ridden the train over there... and if you wanted to split a room with Amanda, then that means she'd be able to go as well!!!

Talk to her! I know she's, at the moment, planning on following her future hubby to Scotland but i know she wanted to go to Germany specificaly for oktoberfest too! would be great if you both could join us!

If you two can join us.. all the better!! i could get you a room where we're at in Stuttgart and you two could pay me back when you get there. that's no big deal as long as you can get down there.

oh shoot, i forgot...can you travel right now?

I'm going to try and head home for a week or so to see my family, maybe to minneapolis to visit some friends, and then...?? Don't know if I'm allowed to fly internationally though on my non-rev benefits...

Well, when you're ready to go, let us know! It'd be fun. We'd talking across the desk about how fun it'd be to drag you off to some strange destination!

Oct 31-Dec 8. Let's go! Do I get international benefits if he's flying for xjet or do i have to wait till he gets to a major for that?

THough I am pretty sure I can go to mexico since xjet flies there... vacation anyone? hehe

but back to my original post...give me some nitty gritty details about what to do and whatnot. Step by step sorta stuff.

hmmm early November, Expovina (BIG worldwide wine festival) in Zurich...can CAL get to Zurich? if not, we just might have to buddy it up...Amanda's been there before and i'm thinking she might like to go back for a longer period of time or if there's anyone else you can find to bunk up with, it would save some duckets!
