| If your DH is "new" to the industry, he may or may not be aware of all of the FAA regulations in regards to his flying. Or he may not know where to get the info! Unfortunately, ignorance of the "law" is not a defense and your DH's should be as informed as possible. I don't think it's feasable to memorize ALL of the regs (it's probably nearly impossible LOL!), but at the very least, they need to know where to find the information. I asked Eric where to go and here's what he said: There's a few places you can go... 1. Sign up at AOPA Online: They have a $39/yr. membership, access to the regs and also have legal services available (i'm sure there's a fee) for pilots who run into trouble. 2. Go to Sporty's Pilot Shop - Search and purchase all the books that are listed based on the type of flying that you do. Do this only if you prefer to have physical copies. Eric says some of his captains traveled with these books. To each his own. 3. Here is a free site as well, with all of the regs http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Gu...e?OpenFrameSet If your DH has computer access throughout his trips, this might be a good option instead of paying for them. But if he doesn't have a laptop or access to a computer when he may have a "on the spot" question, then the actual books might be more useful. Also, the company that he works for should have given him "OPS Specs" when he was in training. These are specific books that they get directly from the FAA in regards to the type of flying they do for that company. Eric led me to believe, though, that they are not all inclusive, so they should utilize of the the "3" methods I mentioned above, in addition to the ops specs. Good luck!! |
