Default 9/11

I was sitting here today thinking about that tragic day and realized that 09/11/01 was a Tuesday and today is a Tuesday. 9/11 was a beautiful cool day w/out a cloud in the sky and today is a beautiful clear day (here in Chicago)as well!

For me it seems like yesterday, and yet it was 6 years ago! It is amazing to think how much has changed, and to reflect upon the tragedy and significance of that day.

In Memory of all that were lost on and since that terrible day.....

You too with the Tuesday thing?

I remembered that while I was driving and talking on the phone with Ian earlier today...just a sudden "Ah!".

It doesn't seem like yesterday to me, but at the same time, it surprises me that it was already six years ago.

Strange.

There are two songs that make me feel the memory because they were played a lot right afterward: "In a New York Minute," and a remix of a Cranberries song [title of which I can't remember right now - was it the Cranberries? Maybe it was Enya...I think it was Enya...I'd know it if I heard it].

I'm pretty sure it was Enya , I would remember if it was Cranberries (my favorite band growing up)

Yesterday during my interviews I wore my american flag pin on my jacket, you would be surprised how many flags were NOT at half mast yesterday.
In fact traffic came to a halt on one of our feeways due to picketer's waving signs that said "9/11 was an inside job"

Living in the East coast 4 years ago when this day came around , every home had a flag out on their homes in honor of this day, how can the West be so frigid ??
Even when 4th of July and Memorial Day holidays roll around there's just such a different feeling then what I had growing up on the east coast (we would have parades in honor of the veterans)

9/11 will always be in my heart because my friends and family were affected so much by this happening and innocent lives were lost.

I remember being at work, DH was home and called to tell me the news. I immediately logged onto MSNBC and there were the pix of the first tower being hit. We ended the call and he immediately called back to tell me about the second tower. We hung up and my office mates and I immediately tuned into NPR and hovered over the radio and the internet all afternoon.

That is a bitter sweet day for us. We had our first sonogram when I was pregnant with our first DS. I remember how quiet it was in the waiting room! Everyone was in absolute shock!

Amazing how different the world has become....

Am I the only one that, since 9/11, somehow always manages to look at a clock at either 9:11 am or pm? I mean almost every single day?

I also noticed the Tuesday thing.

We went out and did some fun family activities yesterday. I just couldn't sit home and watch all the replays on tv. It just gets me depressed and I think it's good to show that we're still strong even after such a horrible tragedy.

What did the rest of you do yesterday?

Worked yesterday... I work in an airport and I was listening on the bus to some flight attendents that had some anxieties about flying on 9/11... also some memorial stuff on CNN on the big screens thoughout the airport...... but other than that.. you wouldn't have known anything was any different.

I think maybe people want to forget because the memory and thought bothers people. Even though people don't show it, I don't think anybody really is going to forget what happened that morning 6 years ago.

Worked yesterday too. I didn't want to watch the stuff on tv...hell, I didn't want to watch it the FIRST time. I did alot of thinking about it though, I remember I was in high school at the time. I was panicked because I KNEW whatever war there was my brother would be involved (although he was still just ROTC then). I was hoping the war would be over before he had to go, but sure enough, he was involved, and I'm glad to know he's home safe. I'm proud of my family's military affiliations, and I wish everyone could be supportive of the people over there whether they agree with the war or not. Regardless of whether it's right or wrong, the people that are in our military deserve the respect because they are doing what they signed up to do, many without any complaint. Few people do that nowadays.

I went to an interview, but when I scheduled it I noticed it was on 9/11, and I almost felt like it was a Friday the 13th kind of day and wanted to reschedule but I just did it anyway. I think 9/11 will be the "where were you when Kennedy died" of our generation.

Did anyone see anything about the one year anniversary of the Comair 5191 crash? It was August 27th or some day like that, I didn't see anything in FL about it, or anything on the news. My mom lives in Cincinnati and she said it was in the paper. Not that that was as big as 9/11, I guess I was just closer with that one because I lived in Lexington, and dh and I worked at that airport 6 months before it happened.

I'm not sure that people necessarily want to "forget" 9/11 happened. Speaking only for myself, I just don't want to relive it every year. I've seen so many replays of the towers being hit, it's a given that i'll never forget it. I chose to celebrate LIFE that day, not dwell on the death. I think that's the best way to honor the people who died. If I had died in that tragedy, I wouldn't want people to relive it every year. I would have the mentality "don't dwell on the tragedy, show those bastards (Alkeida) that they can't keep you down!!!"

I would rather see news broadcasts that day showing patriotic Americans doing patriotic things. Or talking about the memorial, or talking about the good things that we're doing in Iraq and the changes that we're making there. They DO show that stuff, but it's over shadowed by the tapes of the crashes.

I think the news shows the tragic and dramatic news clips from 9/11 every year because, like a car crash, people are drawn to it. I DO think that the people who died should be remembered, just not the way the news media does it currently. Just my humble opinion.

Re: The west seeming so cold on this day.

I live in Seattle, so we were just waking up that day, I turned on the radio at about 5:55 AM, and was surprised to hear our local funny jocks on 5 minutes early. They were saying "We're live because something wierd is happening in NYC...". I turned on CNN just in time to see the 2nd plane go in live, ironically enough, over the shoulder of Aaron Brown, a former Seattle news anchor.

My husband spent the next hour staring out our kitchen window, we can see downtown Seattle clearly... I asked him what he was doing and his reply was simply "Waiting for the next one to hit".

Of course, nothing hit out here. We are far away out here, and most of us out here agreed that it would probably feel different if it were closer to home. I don't think we're cold, I just think we're removed from it.

We live very near Seatac airport, and probably the most spooky thing was the silence when the ground stop commenced. And one of the saddest moments in my life was when I saw the first Fedex launch, many days later... I realized he was going to have to get back in the saddle and I was scared. Sat there in the back yard with a chicken (yes, a pet chicken) in my lap, crying like a baby. The only thing that brought me around was my two old, rather deaf neighbors "whispering" to each other... "Ella, do you think Erin is OK?" "Shut UP Vern... she's married to a PILOT!"

I spent some time yesterday celebrating each departure from SEA through the trees of my backyard. This is the first year since 2001 that we've been home for the anniversary. The other years have been spent hiding out on our sailboat somewhere with no TV or radio. Flying the biggest, most bad-assed American flag we can find!
