We're going to EWR

or rather, he is. Just got the call with the base assignment today and he's been put at EWR. Not the last pick, but definitely not the top choice! Still waiting to be called for IOE.

There's only 3 direct flights a day from SLC to EWR, so it looks like this will end up being a 2 leg commute which blows, but John is putting up an ad for a base trade with someone in LAX or ONT, so hopefully there's someone there who wants to get out.

The one really beneficial thing is that John has a good friend (also a pilot) who lives near EWR and he's hoping to give him some $ and crash with him a few nights/week rather than finding a crashpad and giving the $ to strangers.

We're getting near D-Day (surgery) and I think we're both hoping that he'll get called for IOE on Sunday or Monday, have a 4 day trip and then will be able to be here next Friday for my surgery.

Well, it's great news that he got a base assignment, even if it wasn't his top choice.

I'm sure John will be able to trade within a few months, I know there are people leaving the west coast for IAH and EWR monthly. Aaron's only been out in ONT for 2 months and already they are doing the second perm bid since he's been there.

Aaron has a 2-3 leg 9 hour commute right now, but part of that is because he perfers to fly only on the branded b/c it's easier...

Im right there with you !

Jeff got based there too. We think we found a "crashpad" near the airport, its out of this 39 year old woman's home , she's a NP at a hospital nearby.
She's not married , but has adopted a little boy from Guatamala. Jeff will be meeting her at the end of the trip (12th) . She'll be charging him $200 a month and he'll have the upstairs portion of her home to himself. Seems to good to be true

This will be Jeff's second IOE trip and he's doing really great so far.
There 's a perm bid thats out and John can trade once he's off his IOE.
We are really hoping to trade for Ontario as well, its going to be really hard in the meantime, but we'll get through this. I still don't have a job as of yet , so I am also looking in Cleveland for jobs....honestly getting more bites out there then here .

I went on my first Non rev trip last weekend ! what a crazy game you have to play , but it was very exciting.

I thought you said Jeff was in CLE? I can't wait to try the non-reving thing...I know all the seasoned pros out there are rolling their eyes at me, but it's something new for me to try

Are you planning to stay in Park City, then? We re-evaluated our move and decided to buck up and pay the extra rent to move up there too. I think there will be a few of us in the SLC area.

Laura, that's awesome

We'll have to get together for dinner or an adult beverage when you get up here!! My neighbor flies for Skywest and I'm good friends with his wife, so we'll have to harass them into coming along as well

(and maybe michelle will make the drive up from Provo to come hang out too!!)

EWR = Newark, NJ

and as far as I know the only new base rumors are Denver (flying for United) or Boston (flying for Delta)
