"Because the airplane goes fast"

So, my DH had an overnight in Calgary last weekend. Our really good friends live up there and had just taken their son on his first flight. Now, our friend used to be a pilot...thats how DH and him know each other. They went to college at ERAU together and both worked at the same regional flying the CRJ for 4 years. When our friend got furloughed, he decided he didn't want to stay in the industry. So him and his wife moved back to Canada and he is doing computer stuff now. Well, the other week, they were flying in Canada on a CRJ with thier son as a lap child. The F/A told our friend (she used to be a F/A also) that while taking off, she need to face her son into her with his legs on either side of her and she needed to pretty much bear hug her son during take off and landing. Now, they had never heard this before (and DH has never heard this before either). When our friends asked why, the F/A leaned in and said "Because the airplane goes fast!"

I guess I wouldn't think much of this story if DH and our friend hadn't been pilots on the CRJ for so long. But what an great explanation by the F/A!!!

Amelia- I dont get it? Was the flight attendant joking? Oh, I feel so silly for not seeing it........

Maybe this is one of those things you have to tell in person. I don't the F/A was joking.....DH implied that the F/A was serious and was talking to our friends like they were little kids.

Well, anyway...the way DH told the story, it was pretty funny.
