Yup, the announcement went out yesterday. It goes to show you, never chase metal! DH would always point that out, and the retort was, "They'll never close DTW." Guess what? They did.

The official letter went out today. This is huge. It would be like JetBlue closing JFK or AirTran closing ATL! Hundreds of pilots who have never, ever commuted are going to have to commute to FLL or rethink their lives. All by Oct 1st.

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | This is huge! And very devastating. Another hit Detroit doesn't need! All those Spirit pilots living in Detroit now may have to move.. and if they choose to move, there is no way that they will be able to sell their houses here the market is so bad. Also, we found out yesterday Champion is closing their Detroit base too... What the Eff is going on lately? Do you know why Spirit is closing their base here in DTW? |

They are moving to the AirTran single base model. My guess is over 1/2 the DTW pilots live in base. Heck, the most senior captain has never commuted in his life. Well, at least there will now be unity in keeping a good commuter clause in the contract and not reducing the mandatory 4 days off in a row (which was being pushed by the non-commuters).

I know DH is pretty bummed about it. He still wants to work for Spirit someday, if possible, but the DTW base was a nice bonus. I'm hoping that the DTW pilots commute instead of move to FLL. Or maybe they'll quit and DH might get a call? O.k. that's bad of me to think (LOL!).The housing market (and everything else) here in MI is BAD! Plants are closing left and right, companies are leaving MI everyday and our condo has actually LOST value in the two years that we've own it. O.k. done ranting about how bad MI is right now. ![]() Roz- I know Eric was hoping to treat Charlie to dinner sometime if he had a long enough layover in DTW. Hopefully he can squeeze that in before October.
