Default SWA Wives/SO's

Just curious how many current or soon to be SWA wives/SO's are on the forum? My husband was in the June DB and got "THE CALL"!!! I know that there are a couple of other wives on the forum with DH's that recently got "THE CALL" as well!!! Just curious how many of us are on the forum?

That's great news! Congratulations! My DH is not at SWA, but we know 2 guys (college buddies) who were hired there very recently. They are THRILLED, as I'm sure you are too! What a great company to fly for!

Am I correct in thinking that all the aircraft are 737's?

How long is training at SWA?

My boyfriend just got the call from the July DB. It's HUGE, but a mixed blessing too. It sounds like these guys might be in the pool until well into '08, but that could all change.

For now, it's his first day of IOE for United on the A320. He's going through the motions there until SWA becomes a reality.

Glad to see there are others out there!

LIL...

Thanks! We are very excited! Yes...you are correct. All of the aircraft at SWA are 737's. I'm not sure how long training at SWA is. We aren't that far yet. My DH is just finishing up getting his 737 type rating and then will find out more on when to expect a class date. He's been told so far that it will be either the end of this year or the 1st part of next year. So...he's going to be swimming in the pool for awhile. Who knows...he could possibly be in the same class as your college buddies!

Annie (ace12)...

Congratulations to you and your DB and good luck with IOE at United!!!! It is exciting...but I also know what you mean about mixed blessings! My DH is just finishing up his 737 type now and then should find out more about when to expect a class date. He's been told it could be either the end of this year or the first part of next year. So....I guess our boys will be swimming in the pool together for awhile!
So...if they and we can hang in there...I think it will be well worth the wait! It's a great company!!! Who knows....they could eventually end up with the same class date! That would be pretty neat! Have you heard anything about how long training is at SWA? LIL asked me...and I haven't heard yet.

Hi!

I think that training is a firm six weeks at Southwest and they fly the wives in for the first weekend (girlfriends, not so sure).

Jim has his type already, so that puts him, theoretically ahead in the pool of guys without their type's. We'll see....

There's a lot of stuff floating around that these class dates are going to get pushed back really far (like March, April, etc.)- however, I've heard that this all changes in an instance sometimes. Let me know if you hear differently.

Stay in touch- it has a ton of potential for a long-term, stable, pilot relationship!!!

Another future Southwest wife here!

DH got hired in the June DB, and got his type on July 10 (he got really lucky and was able to get in right away). Your pool date for a class goes by either 1) if you have the type, it goes by your interview date or 2) if you don't have the type, it goes by the day your got the type.

I heard there are 3 classes in August and 2 in Sept. As of now, no classes in Oct/Nov and 1 in December. We are expecting early 2008 as his class date. Which will be okay because then he will get his 401k match, profit sharing and xmas vacation with his current company.....and hopefully be home for the birth of our baby. But we also know from our friends that they really don't know what they are doing about classes until 6 weeks in advance....so just because they say now no classes, it could all change. I read that the August 22 class is being filled with mid-April pool people, so the 2 sept classes will maybe get into May (depending on peoples dates in the pool).

We are really excited about going to Southwest. DH is hoping to be based in BWI since the commute won't be too bad from MHT since there are a dozen flights a day. Or he will hope for MCO, both our parents have condos down there in Cape Canaveral he could use.

We heard training is ~6 weeks and they I did also hear the fly the wives/SO out for the first 2 days of training....hopefully I will get to go!

I heard the two Sept classes are filled with military guys from earlier DB's who had commitments to the military until the end of August. That explains why, with the July DB, there were 300+ in the pool. But the Sept classes could have changed. In anycase, they made it to the pool--that's the big step!

DH will finally be done with his 737 type this Saturday! I've seen him a total of 2 days all month b/c when he hasn't been working...he's been in Dallas getting his 737 type. Go figure...it would be the month that I have completely off work!!! Oh well...I'm just extremely grateful that he was able to get it done without having to quit the company that he is currently at in order to get his type!!!

DH will not officially be in the pool until he finishes his type this Saturday. Yes...the pool date is "generally" their interview date (if they had the type the day they interviewed) or the date they got/get the type, but they are NOT firm pool dates! Yes...they can generally plan on when they are going to get into class by when they got/get their type or when their interview date was (if already had the type). However...in the past their have been guys/girls (with later pool dates) that have gotten class dates ahead of guys/girls (with earlier pool dates). Does that make sense? Just keep in mind that there are a lot of dynamics behind the scenes that go into a class makeup.

However...instead of thinking about where our DH's/SO's are at in the pool....I think that we should all be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL that our DH's/SO's are in the pool!!! That's what is important!! Who knows...they could all possibly end up with the same class date!!! Now wouldn't that be AWESOME!!!!

I have also heard that WIVES/SO's get to go to the first couple days of training with their DH's/SO's at SWA. I think that it is awesome that they include us in the process!! I'm really hoping that I am able to take the time off of work to go as well!!!

Annie (ace12) and Robyn (rgphib)...please take care and keep in touch!!! We can all help each other through this!!!

Just thought I would check in with updates....

There will be 3 classes in June (4th, 18th, 25th). DH will be in either 18th or 25th. His type date was July 10th. Rumors of 2 classes in July with interviewing starting up again in the fall.

Good luck to all the poolies.....
