Ooo sweet, Robyn! I've been wondering how things were progressing with that pool... (and mostly how close your husband was to getting out of it!) VERY exciting news. On the glass is half-full side of things: I know you were worrried before about him being in training and missing your munchkin's birth. Instead he got to be there and has been home to bond. So, in this sense, the wait in the pool was a good thing! Does he feel ready to go? I'm ready to hear about his training! We have several friends that are working there now, and definitely think it's the cat's meow. They've NEVER been happier, and you can see that when you look at them.

Thanks! We are so glad things worked out the way they did....we were hoping for 1 more summer together (classes weren't supposed to be held over the summer....but then all of a sudden they added 2 in may and 3 in june)....but we are so excited for him to finally be going.

It was so nice to not have to worry about him missing Jack's birth...we lucked out and he got home Sat. night and Jack decided to arrive that Monday- 11 days early. It will be really hard with DH in training in Dallas, but at least I am staying at home until January so I will be able to manage fine...but he is going to miss Jack so much.

The only thing we are not looking forward to is the commute. It seems as though all new hires are going to the west coast...and it seems like it might be for a year. We live in NH so commute out there will not be fun....but hopefully it won't be too long. We are hoping for BWI eventually.

we just flew with a newbie to SWA on our last trip this is COMPLETELY third hand, but in their class they told them that southwest expects the pool to be "dried up" by the end of the year, and is going to start a hiring spree again.

again, this is third hand, so it has to be taken for what its worth, but maybe???? we can hope right

That is what we heard as well....apparently the People Department has been asked when they can start interviewing again. We heard they hope to start interviewing again by September...so that would be good. But things change daily at Southwest! We just found out Friday about 2 more classes in June (as of last week it was only 1 class on June 4th) and now they are talking 2 more classes in July. Back in March we were told 3 classes in April and then none until Sept. Then they had 2 in May and now 3 in June.

I could see that... it seems that most of the airlines are looking at a short temporary stay of hiring and absolutely expect to start hiring either later in the year or early next year....

but that can always change so keep those eyes peeled, keep looking at all avenues.

Yes, they are going to start interviews again in a few months and will be hiring 400+ that number includes all the poolies. I heard a number as high as 480. Keep your fingers crossed. The orientation that you will be invited to is an ABSOLUTE MUST...it is awesome! They have a big party for the new hires and spouses and the tour is great. Very Impressive...I actually changed my flight and stayed an extra day....actually me and 3 other wives did and we hung out while our dh's were in class.
