that makes sense considering how fast the controllers talk and all the different accents along the way. JFK has some really interesting controller talk going on when things get co-mingled communication wise (miscommunication) esp with the overseas guys...

I listened in to doug's landing last night as they were coming back from Rome...he was the flying pilot, so he could get "current" (in landings) and the CA worked the radio.. but doug worked ground and so he's texting me while sitting waiting for the gate to open up.. and i asked him a few questions about the whole thing.. it was pretty cool to learn something new and it gave me a little bright spot in my weekend as i could actually "follow along" and understand what was going on.

I FINALLY heard Nick on the radio coming in to EWR from Cancun (oh I know, nic, huh). He sounds really good... damn good!!
Too bad it was only for a few seconds!

Unfortunately, tonight's viewing didn't work out and i'm not sure why...I'll have to discuss when I see doug on Wednesday and see where i went wrong.

Geeky? Us? big time!
We actually take the air radio, go to the hill in front of the Madrid- Barajas airport...sit down..have some beer/coke..and listen to the ground and/or aproach ATC ...yeah..it´s really fun..sometimes we do the contest thing..identify the airlines by the accent

well the next thing will be to bring the chairs...cause sit around in the grass is not so comfortable..

( I´m going for the liveatc.net...great thing!)

I listen to liveATC.net as I am learning how to fly myself and need to get radio part down. I also heard my pilot more than 10 times now (have not heard him recently). Sometimes, he sounded cool, even sexy:-) Sometimes he sounded short and tired. It is all part of pilots' life.

I may have talked to some of the same traffic controller as my pilot as we all use Norcal approach/departure whether it is a big jet or a little Cessna I am flying.

I think it is a great thing. My pilot does not know there is such a thing until I told him. LOL

now that sounds like fun!!! I'd try it in phx but there's no where to sit/watch anymore AND hardly anyone with an accent (except for the BA guys)...haha

speaking of, oppita, is there another website besides liveatc.net that you can see/hear the european flights? flightaware doesn't grab the european flights on their way back to the states (not in my experience at least), so i'm looking for something that will...

Thanks for sharing the link Kristie! My boyfriend flies out of a small airport, so last night I went on to listen and sure enough I heard when he came in from his last flight, and then he said goodnight to the controller... and when he got home, I was like, oh I didn't realize that you knew the controller enough to say good night to him! and he was like, How did you know that!?!?

I didn't even know this existed! So, the kids gathered around the computer this morning and they heard daddy landing. They were so excited to hear him over the radio. We're probably addicted now...lol!
