A completely unrelated flight gets canceled causing a chain effect that ruins our carefully laid plans.

A flight from ERW to JAX was canceled yesterday which led to the the JAX-IAH flight being canceled last night. Which meant todays JAS-IAH flight was way oversold and DH and Kidzilla didn't get on. They have to take a later flight which means they will miss their connection in IAH and have a 5 hour layover. THEN, in OAK instead of being able to do a quick drop off and turn around DH is going to have a 4 hour layover waiting for the red-eye to bring him back. The end result is that instead of arriving back at 10:30pm tonight, he won't be home until 10:30am tomorrow. The exact time of his appointment with the AME to get his 6 month medical exam. And the next available appointment isn't for another 7 days! Which is 7 days later than when he is supposed to submit proof to the chief pilot that he had done it. AARRRGGGHHHH!

Maybe he should come see the good Dr. here in Phoenix, we always try and keep 1-2 appointments available for same day next day appointments.
You wouldn't imagine how many calls we get that ask us if they can be seen "like right now".

But of course that is all we do "flight physicals", we cater to pilots and their medical needs.

"sorry had to put a plug in for my office

Also we fax over the medicals to operations for our guys, if we have the fax number we are more than happy to do it for ya

DH actually found a great AME doctor in a small town near us (he is literally a small town doctor!). DH literally calls in the morning and has an appointment that afternoon! I always laugh since when I need an appointment with my doctor I could be waiting months! He gets an appointment within hours! He is going to have a rude awaking when his doctor retires.

Ahem, it's not like I haven't been reminding him of the need to get this taken care of for like 5 weeks now... usually he can get a next day or 2 day appt. I guess it's just a busy time.

This one's all on him and I am taking no responsibility for it so to him

but admitedly, it has been difficult to schedule since he's on IOE still and doesn't have a schedule to plan around. And he is taking Kidzilla to CA for his bio-dad time so I don't have to take 2 unpaid days off work to do it...

Here's the ironic conclusion to the 1st class medical saga...

He managed to get the appt moved up from the 27th to the 25th. THEN, yesterday, he found out from his check airman that as an FO, he didn't need a 1st class medical, only a 2nd class, so he doesn't even need to go to the AME for another 6 months!

I told him he's going anyway so that we can avoid this whole mess for another year.

Glad he got his medical scheduled! My DH is like that too, waits till the last minute on things, I swear he does it on purpose!

For some reason, early this winter, CAL said the FAA told them all FO's need the have a first class medical every six months. I can't remember the exact reaon, but CAL ended up paying for the FOs to get their medicals if they were in between the 6-12 month period. So now that's extra $75 a year again, at least it's tax deductible!

That is because there was a crew in France with 2 FO's and 1 CA (2 second class and 1 first class medicals). The French would not allow the flight to depart because there would be times when the relief pilot and FO would be in control of the AC and no-one in the cockpit would hold a first class medical. They forbid the flight to depart for the US operating that way.

That's right, I knew it was something with France. It's just weird that they made all their pilots get 1st class medicals, even if they don't fly the type of plane that goes there!
