| Jetgirls Member | I finally got DH to download a copy of the pilot mentor manual for me. It's got all kinds of info for newbies on how to bid, jumpseat and all manner of things they should know. And since I am a nosy control freak that I want to know too. If anyone wants a copy of it, let me know and I'll email it too you. It's put out by XJet ALPA and is also available on the ALPA website. It's 81 pages of info!Here's the intro part to explain more about it- " Captain Joan Bubb designed and developed this Manual to assist new hires as they transition from the training environment to flying the line. The manual was created to answer many of the frequently asked questions from new hire pilots. The entire Pilot Mentor Manual is available for download from the XJT ALPA website at: XJTMEC > MEC/LEC Group > Home. Just click on the XJT Pilot Mentor Manual link under the Documents tab." Kim

| hey there !!!! you know I've been wanting a copy of this "for Sure" !!! when I click on the link that you gave out, it says "members only" and enter password. Will you send me a copy to my email? Jeff just got his Pilot Trn Instcns moments ago and flys out of Phoenix Sunday morning to Houston staying at that Holiday Inn nobodys likes...oh well...this is it I guess ! Here we go ![]() |

| Jetgirls Member | I saw that the crackpipe administrator offered to host it but then it never showed up. The person who posted it said to get email her and she would email it out. I'm not sure if she verifies employment before she sends it out. It's probably best to just let people email me if they want it. K

| Actually, if a non-ExpressJet employee wants to see a copy, that person should get a copy from an ExpressJet employee. For the new ladies on board,(and as a review for me, probably the most "want to be in the know" woman I know) I would caution you to remember one thing: While our pilots are going to ask us to do lots of favors for them, and will show us how to do it (trip trading, checking things out on the company intranets, etc), we have to remember this is THEIR job, not ours. Access to this information is a privilege, and we should treat any info, no matter how innocent or seemingly harmless as something to be guarded. There really aren't any "secrets" out there, but I think we should not trade company information amongst ourselves. That being said, I think this group is great for getting word out about information that would be helpful to all of us. Just make sure the final version of your info comes from your pilot only. I know, what a buzzkill! I wish there had been a pilot mentor manual 10 years ago! |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | I agree...it is a privilege and it is their job...but I think trading a few secrets really isn't all that bad because, as an example, there can be ways of making preferencial bidding a lot easier for the newbie much less a lot nicer when it comes to tricking the PBS system (or whatever your working with). the only way you get to know that information is by word of mouth and asking how to work it "best". Your pilot might not hear it from the other guys, but if you ask him "hey, did you know about this" and they don't? then you just helped yourself with scheduling and scheduling in itself can be a major hassle. it's really all about "the more you know"...to be able to help hubby pilot out..simply because you too are in this airline/pilot relationship. your only doing yourself good by knowing how things work. BUT.. in saying that.. i do think one of the things that has to be maintained is the integrity of WHO is within the company and WHO gets what information and that's just making sure your talking to the airline(s) wife only (someone that's married to the system along with their hubby)...

| I asked my husband to take a look at this thread, and tell me if he thought my admonition was appropriate. He asks that, at least ExpressJet wives, we keep company information private and to get the stuff from our guys. He said it doesn't preclude us from trading "secrets" but only to company/union/privileged information. In other words, he felt it was fine to let each other know that the manual exists, but did not find it OK that we send the actual manual to each other. I think that sounds reasonable. |
