| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | How long was training for SKW and where was it? I think dh may have his hours and be off for training, right about the same time that the baby is due. But he said he thought all the training was in SLC even if he doesn't get based there, whereas I thought I had read it was done at FSI in FL. |

| It is in SLC at the airport. For new hires in the CRJ, ground school was 4 weeks and then there is SIM which is usually 2-3 weeks and is usually in SLC (but DH had to go to Atlanta the past Feb b/c SLC was backed up...not sure if they are still sending people to ATL). I was pregnant and in the 3rd tri both times DH was in training with Skywest. If you DH gets through training and is waiting for IOE (or on IOE) when you get close to your Due date....the woman who schedules IOE will really work with your DH. She is so nice and worked with my DH both times. As a new hire, she gave him one 4 day trip 2 weeks before I was due. Then she told DH to take some time off for the birth of DD. She said to call her back 1 week after she was born and she would schedule him for the rest of his IOE. Then with DS, he called her before IOE to tell her about baby #2 being due in a month and a half. Well, at the time IOE was backed up by 4 weeks. DH was going to start FMLA in 5 weeks from that point when he called her. She didn't both scheduleing him for IOE until about a week after he came off of FMLA.

| Is he flying the CRJ or the Brasilia? Ground school for the Brasilia is a little bit different if I remember correctly. Amelia, it's good to hear that skywest accommidated the birth of both of your babies. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | No, he didn't get hired yet (so we don't know what plane it would be either), I was just saying he'll have his hours and be ready for training about the same time that the baby is due. I'm glad to hear that they were helpful Amelia, you worry as a new hire that if you ask for any kind of special help, that they'll think you're a flake or something and let you go! If most of it's in SLC, that will be good. Is the IOE in SLC too? I'm not quite sure how all this stuff works. I was trying to figure out if it would be better to really shove in as many hours as possible so he'd maybe be done before the baby's due, or if it would be better to have the baby and THEN apply. I guess we'll just have to see how well the weather and the number of students cooperates and what pace that puts him at, as we get closer. |

| I'm sure she can work with your DH got get IOE out of SLC even if he is not based there. DH did both IOE's out of Denver. As a new hire, he was based in Denver. With his upgrade, I figured they would do IOE out of ORD since he was based there, but nope. He got IOE out of Denver. I wonder if she can look up where you live and give you IOE out of a base that is close to where you live??

| Lance is finishing skywest training, he fly the brazilla, this is how our training went...3 weeks in SLC for ground school. Within your class you are given senoirty by SS number, both L and his partner where high on the list so the picked the second session of SIm training. Which means he came home for five days, the ones in the 1st session went straight to Sims from ground school (just a note, they were harder on the second group, b/c they had the weeks off, and they told them that they had better be more prepared than the first). Fix Sim was in fresno for three days, then to Long beach for 4-5 for full motion sim. Straight from SIMS in Long beach he went to St. George for a check ride/night flights. We just got the IOE date, he will have been home 10 days between SIM and IOE, his IOE is for 4 days. Then they give you a week to get to your base and get settled before you get your bid. Usually they like to do your IOE out of your base, from what we hear. In ground school, they let them bid for what base they wanted, noone in his class got thier choice, but they says it happens sometimes. We got FAT, that seems like the newbie base right now, so we will commute for awhile, but they *tell* us that its pretty quick move around time, and you usually get to where you want pretty soon, we really need to get Portland or SLC. Good luck, ground school is hard, but I'm hear for you girl. PM me if you want some details...

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Thanks for all the info! I have a while to worry about it, but I was just trying to figure out if we should start trying to plan ahead for it. Although, he's not even hired yet and there is always a chance he won't get hired but I hope we don't have to worry about that. I did hear also that if you don't get your base choice, that it's usually not too long before you can change. I have a neighbor who was based in CA and finally quit cause he couldn't handle being in the crash pad, that was about 2 years ago, right after he quit, is when SKW really started to pick up and have faster base changes and more hires, so he would have probably got SLC if he had stuck it out, but oh well. We are hoping to be as lucky as dh's favorite instructor, who got right on at SLC, has had a great schedule, he's just started his second year, made $30K his first, and this year he'll make $39K, with a Wed-Sat schedule. That would be nice! Everyone else implies it's such a nightmare w/ the first year income being around $20K so we are hopeful that maybe it won't be as bad as it sounds from some people. |
