They are nonunionized...so no. I wish he did have some sort of garuntee that he could get on a flight. But he has LOTS of flights to pick from and about 4 airlines to pick from as well.

couple of weeks ago, it was the last day of the US Open here so every flight was full. Bill ended up going to DCA on USAir to get to EWR. Well, CAL cancelled a flight and the flight DCA-EWR was full. He should have had the second jumpseat, but the gate agent screwed something up. He and another guy had to call scheduling and tell them if they didn't get on they would miss their show time. Well since they have no reserve coverage on a normal basis, they were put positive space no problem. He hasn't heard anything about it from the CP office, but he said scheduling acted like it was not a probelm or abnormal occurence.

At DH's last airlne, if he commuted, they said he had to try for 3 flights, if he didn't get on the 3rd flight, they would pos. space him for the 4th flight. Here at skywest, I have asked him what would happen if he couldn't get on a flight to ORD and he doesn't know. I wonder if scheduling would pos. space him? If you think about it, it helpes everyone out. the pilot can get to their base in time for their trip and scheduling doesn't have to use a reserve they may or may not have.

They probably would positive space him. He may have to explain something to the CP, but if he really tried to get to work, what can you do? Bill thought he was doing the right thing, going to DCA since it was the only place that had seats open and also had seats to EWR from there. The flight was wide open but the plane broke, so what are you supposed to do? It was the first time this happened and he was not sure what they would say, but since one of the other commuters called and they did it for him no problem and after the gate agent screwed up the jumpseat, it's better to ask then just get a miss trip!

If he gets stuck trying to get to EWR, he could also consider going to LGA and then taking NJ Transit to EWR. DH has had to do that to get home to Philly a few times (except he stayed on the train till Trenton where his chauffeur was waiting! ). Planes, trains and automobiles!

He has done the LGA thing a few times and just takes the bus. It's $30 and gets there in an hour. He'd rather pay that than fool around with the other stuff. Of course that weekend all the PHL flights were full as well and he would not have had enough time anyway!
