Checkairmen and/or other "non-flying" duties

Jen, I know your hubby's a checkairmen..but what exactly does he do for that job? is it just IOE type flying or is he in the office/sim? does he still fly often doing landings/takeoffs even as checkairmen? Does he get paid much more being a checkairman? anyone else have info on that?

Also, has anyone's hubby ever done the "hotel verification" type job where said pilot goes and stays in hotels domestic/international to verify whether they'd be good crew hotels?

hubby was asked not to long ago to do one of these jobs (he was asked for both but can only do one at a time) and he thinks doing the hotel checking/verification would be more fun for the both of us than him just being a checkairman...but i don't know much about the whole hotel type job and was just wondering if anyone else's hubby had done that and what it all included and how the pay was compared to checkairman?

he's also been asked to be a "union" man.. we both know he doesn't want to go that route yet but i (myself) don't know what even that would involve.. him being more of a doormat and/or office guy or what...last thing i want is for him to be taken off the line already - he's really enjoying it.

I know i've already asked a lot in just one thread and if needed, i can split it out into 2 or 3...
