The thing I struggle with most is that usually when H is home I have to work, since I have a 8-430 gig with limited vacation. I LONG for the time when the H has a weekend day or two off.
Anyway, hang in there. There are many positives to this life.

my problem exactly ....I think my job should allow me to be home when he's home and be at work (mostly to keep my mind off him )

have you been at your company long enough to ask for flex time? that's what i did and how i was able to get 4-10 hr days so i'd have friday - sunday off when doug was able to hold weekend...

now that his schedule is different, i do like i always do and try to get specific days off for when he's home and coordinate them with my office well enough ahead of time that they don't get flustered when i'm not in the office. of course, i've also been at my company for 5 years now and have used at least a year or two to build up that type of relationship with my supervisors...

but you never know until you ask as to how they'd feel about flex time. most companies understand family life has to be in there somewhere and i would think most supervisors would be willing to work with you as long as they understand the circumstances and the leadership/loyalty/quality of work you plan to show while having a more flexible schedule.

it's worked very well for me and my company knows that it's one of those perks that keeps me there.

just my 0.02 cents

ok, i figured i'd copy these two posts out and create an entirely new thread based on the topic...in all honesty, i'd like to hear what some of you other ladies do to make time with hubby when you also work?!

I've already gone through what my schedule is like and how i went about getting it to mesh more with hubby's schedule.. but is there anything anyone else does differently that we could all benefit from?

Unfortunately statistics show that the majority of companies do not offer flex time. You are fortunate Kristie. It's not the reality for most Americans!

But this is a great thread--let's hear from all corners of the earth!

I "retired", it solved all scheduling problems! Not so much as far as the bank account goes, but no big deal!

I get flex time with ADT, although I haven't used it yet. Its only 12 hours per quarter though, so I'm not sure it would do any good. And it has to be approved and everything, of course.

I have been searching for a career with a flexible schedule for a while and I have yet to find out. I had a thread a while ago about this and the big things I got back were teacher and nurse. My mom does payroll for a nursing home company and she gets quite a bit of time off and flexibility but she has to deal with a lot of crap from the people she works for.

Eventually my plan is to stay at home when we have kids. That seems to be the only fail proof plan to see dh more often. He's in training right now, but when he does start working for a regional, it's going to suck. I did survive without him for a week much better than I thought I would, though. I may be stronger than I thought I was...

Emily- just curious, is you husband on board with you not working?
Nick and I have had a few conversations around this topic. I'm been on a few pilot families boards the last 4 years and I have to say most of the women are SAHMs.

My company offers flex time- you work four 9.5 hour days (no Mondays or Fridays off) but depending on the position you have at my company it may not be feasible. Retail is another type of job that allows flexible scheduling, but I'm not sure I want to do that!

I don't know what kind of retail, but I left clothing retail because I was just so tired of it, and at the end I knew that it was something that I would not want to do for my "real job"...Perks of retail: discounts! Cons: depends on the company...much of the weeks before and after a major holiday were "black holidays" meaning NO time off...and honestly if it wasn't a major holiday: Thanksgiving, Christmas, you'd be expected to work...working most weekends and nights...they were flexible with time off, although they did take into consideration your rank/time with the company...and sometimes retail is not for everyone...having to wait hand-n-foot for a customer can be draining, and there were times I was so flippin annoyed, but then again there were times, that regular customers just made my day! sometimes you'll have projects to do, but then again there are times where it seems like you have been folding t's forever! I think you have to really like retail...

right now, i have a very lax job, where i'm working at a flight school...i know my boss on an aquaintence level (my BF was an instructor of his) so my job description is a little more flexible, I usually work Fri-Sun for 9hrs...so it mimics that of the BF...

my "real job" (someday) will hopefully have me in a hospital/lab setting...and from what i hear, hours very as do the shifts, but i'm ready for it...i would love to be a SAHM (when the time comes), and i guess that is just something i have to discuss with the future Mr. !!

Yep, it was his idea! I told him I want to get my bachelors degree when he is done with training (I only have associates) and he said "why, you're just going to stay home when we have kids aren't you?"
I still want to get my degree, and I'll still work, and if I find something I really like (which I have yet to do). Things may change, but the plans as of now is when he is making enough money I will stay home.
I would love to find a legitimate way to work online, like data entry or something, but I haven't been able to find anything yet.
