Hhaha... No worries, I essentially sent Target's candy isle as well : ) While I got a bit in trouble for that (he's trying to eat healthier), I did put in those NV granola bars too. Great minds think alike!

(btw, those peanut butter cc bars sound awesome...)

Well that makes me feel a lot better. I'm not the only one making my boyfriend pig out hahaha. I also ruined his plan for eating healthier, but I figured he deserved to have a little junk for working so hard. And trust me, the bars are AMAZING! If you ever want the recipe just let me know.

Just got off the phone with my DH in training , turns out that they are not giving him that one meal a day and no continental breaksfast because he gets a per diem ?? worst ! That per diem won't even cover one of his previous paychecks I'm grumpy today , because he's out there with no car and has to take the shuttle to Walmart to get his food....so therefore puts way more pressure on me to get that first Care package out tomorrow ! I'm trying Kristin Peanut bar recipe tonight, I need to get creative with the other items , cause he's already raided Walmart food aisles...yuck ! He bought Oodels of Noodles and Chef boyardee cans...oh my this makes my "healthy food only tummy" sick . I feel horrible for him right now...but you would be proud cause I acting very supportive when I talked to him on the phone

They don't give you any food at all, never. Sometimes hotels have continental breakfasts, but it is never provided by the company. You get paid per diem after the fact. You pay for your own food and then the check he gets on the 16th of the month will include the per diem from the last month. I think XJT should get around $34 a day, but once again, you get reimbursed for it after the fact, you have to pay for meals yourself. The training center should have a truck that you can buy lunch from everyday, except maybe weekends. Sometimes you obviously spend more than what they give you and sometimes you don't!

DH would bribe the van drivers to take him to the grocery store where he'd buy salad stuff, lunch stuff, cheese and bread. I sent him with packs of the marinaded tuna, salmon, chicken, etc. He lived on salads! He had bread and cheese and fruit for breakfast and made himself sandwhiches and fruit for lunch.

Have your DH find out if anyone in his group has a car. My DH has ALWAYS taken his car to training with him for that very reason and then off the car went to his base. When we lived in AZ he drove it to IN so that he would have transportation to and from training and in the search for food. He often transported several of his classmates to the store for food since he was going there anyway.

It is possible to find and eat healthy food in this industry it just requires a little more planning. Week one...welcome to the world of aviation.
