| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Jackie it's always a personal choice. I'd love to have the experience of a home birth, my sister did it with a midwife and no pain relief, in a birthing tub at home. While everything went perfect, she still plans to do the next in the hospital. There are a ton of stories you could hear that would make you want to do it at home and ton that would make you want to go to a hospital. For me, it will always be the hospital. When I had Kyla, I was so low on fluid that her heart rate was dropping too low with every contraction, but I hadn't progressed far enough to deliver her unless they did a c-section. Instead, they decided to give me more fluid to surround her better and give her a cushin, I didn't even know they could do that, but they just used a reverse cathater sort of thing and put fluid around her. It worked, her heart stabilized for a few hours while I was able to progress further, so that I could deliver her vaginally. There is no way I would have know the fluid was low if I was at home, and I wouldn't have gotten a very accurate reading of her hb w/o the internal monitors, so if I had been at home and just kept laboring away, who knows what would have happened. And there is always the possibility of them having the cords around their necks, etc. Even in a zero risk pregnancy, something can go wrong that will require medical help. For me, even being within 2-3 minutes of a drive to the hospital, is not close enough. I think the best alternative is having the closest home birth experience you can, like in a birthing center or somewhere that they at least have the equipment. But that is just what I feel is best for me and I know there are plenty of people on the complete opposite side, so it just comes down to what you think is best for your family! |

I just saw this. Its not too personal of a question. Congrats on your baby! We have not gotten any of the bills yet from the actual birth. They are still going through insurance. I guess we have a $300 deductable, but I'm not sure how that works. I'm still a little lost about how much insurance will cover. I'm not sure if the co-payments we were making count towards that $300 deductable. I was paying a co-pay at each dr.s visit, but my Dr.s office stopped making me pay the last 2 months b/c I had a $100 credit with them. Also, everytime I paid it, they acted surprised that I had to pay a co-pay....I guess people with Untied HC don't usually pay a co-payment? So, we'll see how much we end up paying out of pocket. I'll let you know as we know. I really hope its not that much. We just found out the epidural I got cost $990....I really hope insurance covers most of that. I just saw that you are in Denver! Where do you live? We live out by the airport near Reunion. Do you know what hospital you will be delivering at? I had my daughter at Lutheran and had my son at Avista. We liked Avista better only b/c we got to deliever and recover all in the same room. At lutheran, we had to move to a different room about an hour after our daughter was born. But Lutheran had much, much better food! LOL How long has your DH been with Skywest? I can't wait till my DH is based back in Denver (he was based in Denver as an FO and then upgraded to ORD back in Dec.)

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | That's quite different from IHC, I wonder if SKW uses IHC in SLC? We have a ded, a cop-pay and an out-of-pocket max. We have to pay the ded for me AND for the baby and ours is $1000, so that's $2000 right there. Then we pay 20% of the rest, which both of my previous births have been about $6K, so 20% of the remaining $4k is $800. So it's cost us almost $3K to have a kid. We had AFLAC w/ Kyla though, and we will with the next one as well. With IHC the OP max has to be met per person of $2500 or $5000 per family, so they don't do the same "baby is still considered part of you" thing. I wonder how the premiums compare. This is just what we have on our own. From what I understand, SKW pays 80% and the employer pays the other 20% which is about $200 a month for family coverage, I think. |

| My DH has been with Skywest for 2+ years. we love having him in the same town that we live in. He was commuting from Seattle to Denver and I never saw him. We decided to move out here so i (we) could see him more and that way we can afford a house and I can stay home after the baby is born. (by the way it's a girl). We live in the Parker area and I am delivering at skyridge. I like the comfort of the hospital and the clinic connected. We are still new to the area (moved here a month ago) so I am still having fun figuring where places are. We thought we would get all the big life changes done at once. (buy our first house, have our first child, and move half way across the country). i'll have to look and see where Reunion is located. how long has your DH been with Skywest? mine is thinking of ungrading soon. but to stay in Den will be alot of reseve for a long time. are you working? or do you stay home with the kids (which is way more then a full time job). Thanks for your fast reply. the more info the better.

| My DH has been at skywest for 2 years now (this weekend is his 2yr anniv.). He was debating for a while if he would upgrade to a different city or if he would hold out for DEN. He really doesn't like the idea of commuting b/c he wants to be home as much as possible. But once he saw peolpe just Senior to him getting upgraded in the CRJ in ORD, he decided to bite the bullet and commute to ORD. He has been flying the CRJ for 6 years now and this was his first chance to upgrade. I think the opportunity to upgrade was just too much for him to pass up...even if that meant commuting. So back in Dec, he took the upgrade. He hasn't acutally started commuting yet. He finished his training in the first part of Feb., waited around for the rest of Feb to get IOE. Thankfully he didn't get scheduled any. Then went on FMLA March 1 for 6 weeks. His leave ends this weekend and we are guessing by the end of next week he will have something in his schedule. I'm not looking forward to him commuting (I have no idea what to expect) but I'm just glad that he finally got to upgrade. Is your DH willing to commute again or does he want to hold out for DEN? Are there very many people ahead of him to upgrade in DEN? What month was your DH hired (just wondering if he was in training with a friend of ours)? Parker is a nice area. I have a few friends that live down that way. We live next to the airport. Its ok out here. there isn't much here yet! LOL I have heard of good things about Skyridge. My friend who lives down by you might have her second baby there (she is due the first week of Sept.). I know what you mean about a lot of change all at once. When I was 6 months pregnant with our daughter, DH lost his job with the airline back east. We were living in VA at the time, so we sold our 11 month old home and moved to CO. I lived with my in-laws here while DH was in training. Once he was done with that, we bought this house and our DD was born 2 weeks later. It was a crazy time. LOL
