Default CAL Pilots

The CAL pilots have their own private forum that you have to pay to be a member of and be a CAL or XJT pilot. Yesterday, someone made a post that one of the pilots that is still in his first year, but doing IOE now for the 777, has a wife that was just diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The pilot is originally from XJT. If anyone knows anything about ovarian cancer, you will know that it usually not detected until it is pretty much too late. My aunt died of this about one month after being diagnosed. This guy wants to take his wife to Austrailia for some sort of experimental treatment, if she makes it to the first week of March. Well the IRO on one of his flights made a post on the "crackpipe" (a nickname for the forum) about the situation asking if a paypal account could be set up for anyone that wants to make donations. The new IAH union rep said he would do it. As of last night they already had $7400. That's in one day, actually just a matter of hours! I'm sure they will end up with well over $10,000. There are alot of people that say the "crackpipe" is just a bunch of whiners and complainers, (which some can be sometimes), but when it comes down to it, they really are a good bunch. Just wanted to let all those other CAL wives/girlfriends know their husbands work with alot of nice people!

Thanks for the post Jan.
A lot of those types of forums are usually made up of complainers. I still read Mesahub every once in a while, just for a chuckle or to see how Nick's old company is doing.
Ultimately, there are a lot of good people out there.

It is over on the "free" ExpressJet pilots website too (the pilot used to be at ExpressJet). There are a lot of guys over there contributing as well.

I think that's what she meant by the "crackpipe."

When I mentioned something about the crackpipe to my boyfriend, he thought it was a real bulletin board called the crackpipe. (I'm on there way more than he is, I usually have to update him on what's going on)

That's great that they've gotten so many donations! I'll have to make a contribution as well.

Actually, there are 2 "crackpipes". The free, anonymous XJT one, and the CALFORUMS one where you have to use your real name, only be an XJT or CAL pilot, and you have to pay a nominal fee. It's a little more civilized than the free one, but both sometimes ahve good info on them. I did see that someone transferred over the info from the CAL one to the XJT one. I guess the total now is almost $13,000, with just over 240 or so people donating! It would be nice if the company would get tickets for these people to get to Sydney, but I'm sure if they did that for one, then everyone would would expect it.

That's terrific! Now I hope the company gives him the time off since he hasn't been there a year and, thus, doesn't qualify for FMLA.
