Everyone wants different things. Some people would love the 777 and doing 15 hour flights. Bill would hate that. He also has no desire to do international flying either, because he gets bored and just doesn't have any desire to do so. Of course the pay is alot nicer. Maybe he will change his mind if he gets bored who knows!

The guarantee for short call reserve (B) is 76 hours and for the long call (A) is 72 hours. Bill's class was told they were all going to EWR 737, there was a possiblity that 4 may go to the 757EWR and they could decide among themselves. If they couldn't work it out then the 4 junior people would get told where to go. There's a ton of new stuff you will learn. If he is on reserve, just make sure he understands the contract and if he feels they are doing something not right, (which they of course will try!)he can always call the union. It seems like the contract always has that, if possible, thing thrown in there just where you don't want it!

Congratulations that he got what he wanted. I'm sure working for Mesa must have been horrible, so he should have a great outlook even with the crappy contract at CAL! Hopefully, it will be better soon!

Nick is very good with the contract stuff. He pretty much had the Mesa contract memorized and spoke up (filed grievances) when necessary. Nick was voted a union rep too I think! After he retires from flying I tease him that he should go into politics!

As for his decision for the 757- it's just like everything else in life we all have different desires, likes and dislikes, etc. I think Nick was the only one who actually wanted to get EWR!

Amanda, I thought of your Nick today! We live very close to the Airport and I went to grab something to eat at Subway on JFK and I noticed a Group of Guys Walking from a Hotel and I thought....."Hmmm, wonder if Amanda's Man is in the Bunch?"

YES! It hasn't really sunk in yet but we are thrilled. Now it's time for ME to reach my goals!
First I'm going to do more travelling since (as Kristie knows) only one page in my passport is stamped!

Probaby won't be as long as you think b/c he will finish just about the time summer schedules come out. We were settled in for a long resreve schedule but DH was able to hold a line in 9 months even with winter schedules. Not too bad, but the pay does really, really suck! DH has a raise coming up in March...no more single ply toilet paper!

I'm glad you didn't say anything. We all know Mesa is crappy, but Nick doesn't regret working there-- he met some of the best guys who are now close friends, and he got the experience of flying 3 planes and he got lots of flight hours (including PIC) to be able to apply for the CAL job! In fact he only was there 3.5 years, which is a relatively short time.
No regrets... but we are glad it is behind us!

He was told in class that it will take about 9 months for him to hold a line. In my mind that's a pretty long time from now!
First year is bad for all of the 1st year guys and then the pay is pretty decent! Plus CAL has profit sharing which is awesome!
For the first year my salary will help with things so hopfully we can keep our 2-ply! Amanda
