I would have asked the fellow passengers if they had some Benedryl lol. Ok, not really, but I would have sat the kid in the seat, buckled her, and held her in place if needed. And if that didn't work, which it would have, I would have taken myself off the plane out of embarrassment!

As for the birth certificate, we have been told to have one for any child that was close to the age of 2 to prove they didn't need a paid seat. Our county used to issue a small credit card size copy of the original, very handy, but they've stopped doing it now and I don't understand why.

After the first time I tried to fly with my son, I had to start carrying his birth certificate.

How hard is it to hold a screaming child in a car seat and buckle them in. I have a difficult three year old who doesn't want to do anything I tell him to do. But that doesn't stop me from making him. What mommy and daddy says is the law for him and that's that.

Hmmm... when we have flown with our children when they were that age we took a car seat with us. It's familiar and once in, they can't get out. We have carrying bags for the seats and usually want to have them for wherever we are going anyway.

It seems like they could have given the parents 5 minutes to get it resolved. If they couldn't get her settled by then, it's likely that they wouldn't be able to. Sometimes they are just tired/hungry/crabby, etc.

they gave them 15 minutes already....do you think another 5 would have made a difference? maybe if the FA's were more stern.. i dunno.

I've got no kids, but as a passanger flying today, I can say thank god that the FA's booted them. I'd have been really pissed if they had taken off with the kid throwing a tantrum - especially if i was sitting in the seat directly in front of them!

I realize that kids will be kids, but i just had a kid (probably 4ish) whine and scream the whole 50 min flight from SLC to DIA about how he was tired. Mom never once told him to close his eyes or anything like that. It also seemed like she didn't have anything to distract him...

Oh - also, another family on my flight - there were 2 boys, probably 2/3yrs and 5ish and the mom. Mom sat on the aisle and let the boys sit next to eachother, so of course they started poking each other and generally pestering (you know how kids do). One started whining about the other pestering and then the other whined, which elicited the "keep your hands to yourself" response from mom, which didn't really work, it kept on going and after mom repeated the "keep your hands to yourself" a few times, she got frustrated and yelled "keep your hands to yourself" and then *smack* both kids got whapped. Talk about a bit of hypocricy! keeping your hands to yourself and then hitting the kids?

It was an obnoxious flight. I can only hope my flight home to DTW is a lot smoother!

As a Mom to two I think a little preplanning would have helped. Did the child have a nap before? Did the parents bring activities to do? My children could not wait to get into their seats because that is when all the fun began. I broke out the playdough, silly putty, etc. I have traveled to Korea, Germany, and all over the US with my kids. It was never a problem. I think the airline was very reasonable.
