Default so doug says to me last night....

"I think we're gonna have to do something about taking back our union"

well, like no duh! it doesn't seem like anyone's union is working for *them* anymore.

The fact that the DAL TA passed doesn't necessarily surprise me....I'm actually quite glad they were only able to sustain the paycut and not have it increased...but the fact that we can't fight for our pensions now just doesn't make a whole lot of sense -> that's just a giveaway that you KNOW the pensions will be gone tomorrow because they've already pretty much stated that fact since we can no longer fight to keep them.

just seems a bit odd... but that's probably just me...

They can vote to get rid of the union and start their own in-house union. There is a government agency that will review the request and if approved will make sure that the company doesn't try to screw everyone/fire people while this is taking place. I believe their old contract is valid until another contract is negotiated. It's a long process though.

The Shuttle guys looked into doing it a while back but then just let it drop. The government agency (can't remember the name) said that indeed we were being screwed over by our own union and said that they would help us (sort of) but our MEC just let it go and said they were gonna try suiing instead and then let that ball drop also (let the statute of limitations run out).

Sorry everything is such a mess at Delta... it's a mess everywhere right now.

I think alot of unions are in bed with management now. I mean, think about it, what's their motivation for helping pilots? They know they're not gonna fight them and they're certainly not going to quit, so either way they still get their union dues and management is probably paying them under the table for shady stuff anyway.

O.K. - I sound a little cynical : )

It's the National Mediation Board.

While there isn't an official decertification process in the Railway Labor Act as there is in the NLRA which is covered by the National Labor Relations Board, there is a quasi process. You can read more about it:

http://www.nmb.gov/representation/faqs-ola.html

The 76 seaters scare me Kristie. When will it ever end. So they go the way of NWA that is going to scrap the DC-9's and DAL scraps the MD-88's. The flying goes to the regionals and mainline pilots lose their jobs. For regional pilots it means they are stuck there forever.

Thank you Roz, it was on the tip of my tongue LOL!

I agree with you about the 70 seaters... it's just managements way of getting people to fly them cheaper (regionals) and smoking pensions. It's all a big scam. I'm so glad Eric left the regional. We both discussed how bad it is for the industry and how he was afraid he'd be there forever. Alot of pilots don't have too many other options right now though, and management knows that too.

He's pretty much given up the idea of flying for mainline. He's just hoping for UPS or FedEx (we'll keep wishin' on that star LOL)

Especially with DAL's announcement today about increased flying overseas--that's the plan. Mainline is widebodies going overseas. The rest is regionals flying RJ's. Lovely.

oh, i know.. i hate flying RJ's as it is.. I don't wanna be flying them cross country too (even though it's already starting to occur).

I too am worried about the 76 seaters... I'd always hoped that the regionals would go back to being a "step up" vs a "career" path!! regionals were always meant as a stepping stone, now, who knows what will ever happen or if mainline will like ever start hiring again!!

it just seems like they're creating a *non-career* for all the youngin's and who in the world is going to want to become a pilot on those terms (all though we know that SJS will never disappear).
