Default DH's last day of employment

Saturday is DH's last day with ATA. His resume is out EVERYWHERE but not one single bite. Not even a nibble! This is so scary! If worse came to worse I could go back to work which I have offered several times but he wants to wait. He says if nothing happens by the end of May he'll start pushing Citation Shares where he has some connections.

Some how I've managed to just ride this out with a positive attitude but now that the day is finally approaching, I'm getting nervous! He's never been furloughed before so he's due. It seems most pilots have been furloughed at least once in their career so I'm sort of using that as my positive.

There are supposed to be a couple of more rounds during the summer months too. It will be interesting to watch this company and see what happens.

Anyway, just wanted to put my pity party out there if anyone wants to join me!

I'm so sorry Stacy. I can only imagine how scary this is.

I'm a big believer in "when one door closes, another opens". I'm sure he'll find something even better or get a call back from ATA.

Thanks! He's already had one save. He was supposed to be furloughed in January and the day before, they called and said someone before him took a voluntary furlough. I don't think it will happen this time! But i'll keep my fingers crossed!

Stacy,

if he needs to do some networking or find some contacts - have him head over to jetcareers.com...there's peeps over there getting jobs on almost a daily/weekly basis. I'm sure someone there can put him in touch with the right people.

Keep that chin up!

I will pass that along to him. He's got connections at FedEx and a couple of other places. Hopefully the phone will ring soon!

Meanwhile, I'll just keep him busy with projects around the house!
Ok, time to go do laundry! Didn't I JUST empty the hamper yesterday???? lol!

Have a good day all!

Continental was supposedly giving preferential interviews to furloughed ATA pilots. That was awhile back so I'm not sure if it's still true. Last I heard they are supposed to hire another 400 this year. I hope something comes up and it works out for you.Good luck.

Laundry? I do 9 loads every 5-6 days! The fun of having a family of 4 I guess. Thank goodness for my HE machines. They were expensive to purchase, but I guarantee they've paid for themselves now because of their low operating expenses. I even brought them with me when we moved, I've never loved an appliance so much!

Anywho, back to the furlough issues........... Being a furloughee myself, I can say that it sucks the big one. There's nothing quite like it. When someone gets laid off from a regular job, that's it, y ou're laid off, you know it's over and you're never going back. There's a certain 'ending' to it. But being furloughed, it's like you're the company's b#tch. "Well, we don't want you right now, but we might later, so...... hang around and wait. Maybe we'll call you again, maybe we won't, maybe it'll be a few years, a few months, who knows. But it's all up to US! Neener neener neener."

I hate it. I hope something else comes up quick. If prospects don't look good right away, at least get out there working and do something. Even a part-time job gets him out of the house for a few hours and gives him something to think about.

Thanks for all the support! Re: the preferential interviews w/ Continental, that was stopped a while back but yes, they are still hiring. DH has his resume' in there as well as everywhere else!

I will definitely keep you posted!

the upside to this is that I do get to spend plenty of time with him AND I've already scheduled a weekend away to go see a close girlfriend of mine that I haven't seen in two years! The kids will be in good hands w/ Daddy around!

As always, off to go check the laundry! Hee hee!
