ERAU Damage

DH told me today that Riddle (Daytona) got slammed hard by an F2 tornado. He tried to send me pix but the link didnt work. Something like 50 out of 65 airplanes in their fleet were destroyed! We used to live in DAB. I remember those winter storms so well! Anyone heard any info????

I heard 40 planes and the maintenance hangar. It is crazy to hear about that. I hope that they have good insurance. I wonder how the start of the new semester will go.

Thank goodness it was on Christmas when the the campus was empty. It wiped out an apartment complex in the area too. It was Sutton Place apartments for those of you that used to live there. I can't remember wuite where that was.

DB (I guess that's what I'll start calling him???

) had a DAB turn today and saw the damage... those numbers sound right, because he said that they only had 15 planes that weren't damaged... it apparently demolished a maintenance hangar as well. Since there were ATC delays going into EWR (Grrr... which caused him to miss the last flight home tonight

), he got to spend a while there today... he talked to some of the people there who witnessed it and they said that there were windows imploding all over the place.

I saw some of the pix on the news... those things were all twisted up like little toy planes! scary man!!

I'm just glad nobody was hurt!

I saw the pics on a news site also. What was crazy was that nothing else was damaged--just Embry Riddle. Steve graduated from Embry RIddle, so he was showing me what all the buildings were.

Wow DH showed me pictures, what a mess! Seminole aircraft were literally bent in half. How crazy is that? ERAU just had a graduation ceremony on the 15th of December, what a relief that this storm happened during a Holiday break. I can't even imagine if it was occupied at the time. Yikes.

I showed those to my DH and roommate and they couldn't believe the damage. They both went to ERAU in AZ. They are wondering if some students from Daytona will go to Prescott to get flying in?

He graduated in 2000. How about your DH? Was he on the flight team at all by any chance b/c if he graduated before my DH, they might have some friends in common?
