Yeah... I did think about waiting. But here is my opinion.

I dont really have a stable situation here. I have a temp job just to make money. And honestly, I dont really want to stay in Des Moines.

It's not so much that I am chasing it so much, just I dont really have anything here, no mortgage, no kids... I really have nothing here. My family is not here, actually my Grandma is on the east coast so I would be closer to her.

When I am actually grounded and find a stable situation for myself, then I will stay put. But for right now, why not??

Wouldn't you all want to leave IA if you could

Actually there is a big push to get people (expecially college kids) to stay in IA. In fact, they make it incredibly hard to become a resident to receive lower tuition.

Unfortunatly, there is not a whole lot here unless you are a farmer and want to live in a small town. Not saying thats a bad thing, but after almost 6 years I dont know the first thing about farming

My bro-in law and a good friend went to U of I and they are REALLY into Iowa. I could never figure out why...

And Jo, thanks for the comment on my avatar. I found the pic (and some other more embarrassing ones) at my parents' house. To answer your quest, I was cute until age 10 then I got all weird looking after that!

He got a job!! Right out of flight school... I couldnt believe it Granted, its not for any huge airline or anything, but it's a start. Its for Colgan airways, I think they do US airways express or something (I get them all mixed up, I'm still new to the whole world). It is little 15-40 seater planes. At least it will be a paycheck. I'm just speechless right now. I am so proud of him. We sort of decided that I would move where ever he got a job. I am pretty rootless, and I am young and crave some adventure

So if there is anyone on the east coast, let me know. I will probably need some advice and possible places to live. More details as I get them. The only down side is he has to leave for another 6 weeks. But he will be home on Tues from ATP so we will get some time together until he starts in Menassis (sp?) VA.

I am just in total shock, and I think he is too. But hey, we'll take it.
Congrats!! That is such great news!! I'm semi-close to the Manassas area - about an hour away in Odenton, MD. Northern VA and the DC area is a great place to live if you're young and looking for excitement. The main thing that you have to worry about is the cost of living in the area - NoVA is pretty expensive. There's a site called apartmentratings.com that was a great resource for me when we were trying to find apartments in the area.

If you get homesick for a rural area, all you have to do is follow route 66 west for a bit and you'll see plenty! It's also a great area for outdoorsy activities, Shenandoah National Park is about 1-1.5 hrs away... has great places to hike & camp and in the fall the trees are gorgeous.

I'll be happy to help you out as much as I can!
