Unhappy Mirena - Can't find strings...freaking out.

I have had Mirena for about a year and a half. Recently (as in, the last few months) I have been feeling bad. It's like constant PMS...but no period ever comes (just light spotting). My boobs hurt on and off, I cramp every day, my back hurts, I am so tired that I can barely get through a day and FORGET staying up at night.

Anyway, the other day I went to check my strings (to make sure the Mirena was still there) for the first time in a while (I just haven't been remembering) and...I couldn't find them. I'm worried that it's been pushed up inside me or something.

I took a pregnancy test a few weeks back and it came back negative, but my question is...would a displaced Mirena cause all of the above prolonged symptoms?

We're getting married in four months...and FI isn't recalled just yet. Now would NOT be a great time.

The below was from the Mirena website.
Home Page

"If you have trouble finding the threads, be sure to use a backup form of birth control and call your healthcare provider."

"Mirena may attach to or go through the wall of the uterus and cause other problems. If Mirena comes out, use back-up birth control and call your healthcare provider."

On the Patient Informaiton PDF you can download, they specify to use a non-hormonal BC backup.

Goodluck!!!

YOu ought to go and have a provider check for you. You may need a sonogram to check for placement. The good news is it won't go up into your follopian tubes, the bad news is - RARE but it can perforate ( usually when they insert it) the uterus (likely painful) or can just be positioned wrong. I would have it checked out if I were you.

Not having a period with the Merina is just a bonus - the other symptoms with you not being able to locate the strings needs to be looked into.
