Default diabetes

Ok I have a question about diabetes...All of my family has high sugar...My mom grandma and two of my aunts control it with insulin, my great grandma passed away from kidney failure due to it and my grandma is missing all of her toes because of a sore that turned into gangreen (not sure if i spelled that right?) and my mother has been bugging me to start keeping track of my sugar (i am only 21) so I got a metar and have been testing it when I first wake up and I think I have low sugar which is backwards from what runs in my family it is usually in the 60's..I work third shift so I dont exactly live a healthy lifestyle sometimes I only eat once a day usually twice though..and I sleep alot it seems my mom said if I could only wake up to eat something that will bring my sugar up then I would be more awake and I am but its hard to keep it up at night when I am working only two ten min. breaks and a 20 min lunch make it hard to actually have time to eat something that isnt quick out of the vending machine...any thoughts on how I can better conrtol my sugar and and foods that might be a good snack to have in a baggie at work to munch on??
